    My new G2S-A1. Cracked.

Today I purchased a G2S-A1 from Infonec down in Markham and when opened the lid I found a very noticeable crack on the LCD screen.

The store is closed right now so I can't personally contact them. I will be leaving the country tomorrow at 2 PM so I'm in a very tight spot. Will stores generally exchange damaged products like these despite a no exchange and refund policy?

If the store will not deal with this problem, will Asus be able to rectify this problem for me?

On a side note. What are the first things that I should do with my newly notebook? Should I charge my notebook's battery for an entire night? What kind of drivers should I update, or replace? What are the things I should be doing immediately when I first turn on my note book?

    Thanks

Uh...isn't the stores fault for selling you a cracked notebook? I'm sure they would understand that and would replace it for you.

I'm concerned that they won't. The reason being that they couldn't verify if the G2S-A1 that I bought had the 8600M GT GDDR3 in it, so the salesman told me that if I found out at home that it didn't have GDDR3, then I'm basically SOL because they can't do exchange or refund.

On the LCD or the LCD bezel? If its on the screen, then I'd get it fixed before it gets larger.

And I'm pretty sure Infonec won't deviate from their policy so you're pretty much left alone to deal with it with ASUS. Thankfully, they've initiated a free accidental warranty for 1 year recently, perhaps head by their Markham HQ or Richmond Hill service center to see what options you have. If you show them your plane ticket and whatnot, they may be generous enough to give you a whole new unit(if they have any in stock).

Wow, who the heck are you buying from?

I'm inclined to think that the basis of doing good business is providing for/pleasing customers. They "can't do exchange or refund"? What kind of business are you dealing with, a cart on the side of the road?

No refunds or exchange seems to be the standard here in GTA, or at least in the stores that I've seen so far. I bought this laptop from Infonec's HQ down in Markham.

Thanks coriolis, especially with the suggestion about bringing my plane ticket, I think I might just have to resort to doing that. :(

Indeed, even if returns and exchanges are available, theres often a huge restocking fee.

It may also be a good idea to fill in the accidental warranty form as well, cause it's not automatically included when you buy a notebook.

This is going to sound very foolish, but what exactly is an Accidental Warrenty form? Where can I get it, and what does it do exactly?

The very popular GentechPC.com has the same policy. Even if the laptop is DOA, they still leave you to deal with Asus. That's the main reason I went with XoticPC for my laptop, even though it was $30 more.

When my c90 kept crashing after a week or two I sent it back to gentech (Ken even took care of shipping that I was supposed to pay) and tested it and sent me a brand new c90. They forgot my asus badge and I requested it and he sent it with some free stuff (asus shirts and pens) just in time for my birthday at the time (not because of my birthday just coincidence). Thats what I call customer service.

There's nothing wrong with Markham, I grew up there :p

I remember when the area where Pacific Mall is now at(as well as Market Village) was a grocery farm and a petting zoo. I was sad when it got demolished.

Though yea, with the recent amount of immigrants and all, it's getting very busy. I'm in quiet Unionville now :p, but commuting downtown everyday is a hassle.

Anyways, yea, prices are cheap, but theres a reason behind it :p

True but north of Warden/14th is quiet in my opinion. It used to be pure farmland less then half a decade ago, it's all new housing complexs now!

And I don't go to PMall unless I have to :x
