The middle part of the cord, the box, it's very hot. Is this normal?

The box, very hot under charging is normal. A specific point in the cord would worry me more then the box itself. If a specific point in a cord and i mean very specific sometimes is a sign of a short though if the laptop is being powered and charged properly i somehow doubt this.

The box can be hot especially when you are running the laptop and charging the battery at the same time. However the cord should always be cold... That is an apparent defect which may cause fire. Replace it as soon as possible...

Call Asus and ask for a cross-ship. Power adapter are suppose to be warm when in use, but not to the point where it's so hot that you're questioning it's safety.

It cooled down after the computer was charged 100% so that seems like it

Normal, when gaming and charging, you pull>100W out of it. This will generate a lot of heat.

It shouldn't get so hot that it melts a hole in your desk, but uncomfortable to the touch is fine.

Where talking about a netbook here. DUnno the specs on it and the adapter but hell my turion laptop couldnt draw more than 65 watts. The G50 uses a 120 watt adapter.

Impossible. The 1000HE power adapter can only supply 36W max.
