In my old G51, thirty minutes of Far Cry 2 on max settings, 4x AA would lead to a temperature of 102C.
The new G51 reached 87C.
Processor temperatures are also down 5C while idle.
Edit: Just noticed Core 0 is averaging higher temperatures than Core 1. Why is that?

The difference in temps for each core can be due to the different tasks directed to each core (if one core is given more calculations, it will run hotter. eg if a program can only utilize one core, the task is usually give to core 0). Another reason is the contact between your heatsink and CPU may be slightly different for each core. If you've taken any heatsink out before, you'd notice that the thermal paste is not uniform throughout the CPU/heatsink contact. All in all, a difference of 2-5C for each core is considered normal.

Yep, 87C is what you would expect. So.....the last one was a real lemon.....

What did you say to bestbuy? I am returning mine tomorrow due to horrible gpu temps(past 100C at times)..
-
Don't worry too much as long as your notebook still alive, it's ok becasue most of notebook today use powerful gpu and easily reach 90c-100c.
-
Yea but going 100C ...I'm afraid my gpu will start falling apart in a few months
...I probablt will not go through the hassle of trying to get a new one from bb so some small mods to the bottom panel will do for me I guess plus the chasis above the gpu doesnt feel to hot at times either..Finally a plus for the G51 over the G50 which felt like a hot patty.
