Just thought I'd comment, my V6 went haywire last Friday, and I had no idea what was wrong. It wouldn't boot past the splash screen, but when I took the HD out, it was fine. I also went into MS DOS, C: was fully there. I tried doing a system restore, but during the process it would say "Not enough hard drive space", and would stop. I had no idea what to do(I tried booting from a Ubuntu CD, it would stall at the Ubuntu loading screen).
I called ASUS's 24/7 hotline, but they were closed for Thanksgiving weekend. Bad, because, well, they're closed. I also called the Canadian hotline, but it was directed to the North American one, which was closed. I'm in Canada, and the call center is in the States it seems. Good cause I know that the hotline isn't outsourced(I guess...). I also emailed ASUS's repair service, I have yet to get a response.
Thankfully, I live in Markham, right where the Notebook Repair depot is for ASUS Canada, so I just dropped by around 2pm, talked to the guy behind the counter, he checked it out, didn't know what was wrong and I filled in a sheet. My V6 is 23 months old, bought in December 23rd 2005, so it's almost 2 years, and my warranty is 2 years. In addition, my wireless card was changed from the Intel 2915abg to a Atheros 5006XS, and the two 512mb sticks were replaced with two 1gb sticks. Without asking or even saying anything he took the notebook and put it in a bubble wrap container, put in the repair sheet, photocopied one for me and took it inside. And that was that, he came back and told me they would call and email me when it was ready, and that it should be sometime next week, but no promises. I hesitantly said that was okay, considering I had assignments and finals due this week.
The weekend came along, built a friend a new computer(Q6600/4gb/8800GT/VistaUlt/P182) and had work all day Sunday. I felt as if a part of my soul was missing, *sniff* my V6.
On Monday, right before another night shift, I got a call from ASUS and they wanted me to come in.
So I drove in slush and rain during rush hour(ugh...), at around 5:30 and the usual 15 minute drive took 45 minutes, and when I got to the office(which, I must add looks amazing. It's very casual, a few couches with a 42" ASUS LCD HDTV, notebooks on high stool tables with stool(VX2s, G1s, U1s, U3s, V1s, V2s, just to name a few), Video cards(8800GTX, x1950, etc.), CPU coolers, sound cards and other accessories inside glass displays and multiple ASUS LCD monitors. The retro designed carpet and the neato paint and office design(felt more like a hangout) made it look like a very relaxing place. I'd sit, get a latte and go on my notebook here if I could![]()
Anyways, I spoke to the rep behind the counter and he brought my notebook out(in a bubblewrap bag) and handed it to me. I asked if it was fixed, and he said yea, and I replied, Oh wow that was fast. He then said it was a corrupt hard drive partitions and it was damaged, which resulted in the motherboard not recognizing the hard drive contents. I also saw that my LCD inverter was replaced, before there was slight screen flickering, now its totally gone.
All in all, I was quite pleased with the service, though the telephone service was almost non-existent(to be fair, it was a national American holiday)
Pro's:
-Pretty fast(Dropped off Friday at 2pm, received Monday at 5:30pm, though they called me to pick it up at 1pm)
-Upgraded/Replaced parts were not questioned
-Warranty not voided by RAM/Wireless card
-Had extra part fixed without asking
-Cute girls working in the back(While I was filling out the form, they(two) walked in from the entrance, I looked up, they looked at me, smiled and giggled, and walked into the back)![]()
Con's
-Telephone service closed for holidays
-Slow email help?

Lol... the 2 cute girls alone should have made the drive worthwhile! j/k..
Anyways, I never doubted Asus' service in North America. Although I haven't experienced their repair service, I did e-mail them a few times and got good responses within 24 hours. From other members, it seems like Canada's repair service is the best. 3 day repair service with free upgrades? Ha! No other laptop companies can match that! -
LOL... sounds like a feel-good story, cori. I agree... the 2 cute girls would've made it all worthwhile! It's amazing what a smile from the opposite (gender) can do to your day.
EDIT: The forum censors out s e x... -
Heya Sam, nice to see you around here(ASUS forum) since you got your Macbook
Unfortunately, I didn't have my cell with me so I couldn't take pics of the Markham location, for those who are nearby, it's worth a visitBut it was a very nice looking lounge haha.

Asus support in the us rocks,, They replaced my screen in less then 3 days,, from me shipping and they shipping back.. and iam on the east coast.. love that free fedex overnight shipping!
-
The email support is from Taiwan so it goes for what is there....
They do fast service and I like. I had troubles with my C90S because no one at the 4 offices I called what I was talking about , especially since I was only RMAing the video card, not the whole laptop... -
ASUS notebook support in Canada is rock solid. The NA phone tech support hours of operations (weekdays only 11-5 PST I think) is the only downside. But then again, their phones techs are very competent and extremely helpful.
For me, reliable tech support is the #1 thing I look for when buying a notebook. With the great service I've gotten so far for my W3J, I can guarantee my future notebook will be another ASUS -
I am slightly annoyed so far with my US service experience. My G1S's power jack inside came loose and it won't charge. I'm still waiting for the email with information on where to send it.. That policy is kind of annoying. I waited 18 hours and called again.. Now they're saying it could be yet another 24 hours to get an RMA.
On edit: I got the email and so far, so good. Off it goes. -
Anyone know if this location is still around? I can't seem to find any information online. But I do have the address copied down.
