My z70va runs idle @ CPU: 68C, GPU: 80C idle with fans running @ 40% and 45% respectively. Is my z70va overheating? If it is, what can I do to keep it cool? Thanks in advance.

That seems pretty hot and i'd worry a little bit, but its not at the melt-everything point.
The GPU's threshold is like 130C. -
The guide in this thread was a great help to me with cooling and fan noise (not that I thought it was that much of a problem before, but better is better):

I have speedfan installed and configurated, but it's just not doing too much for me. I'm thinking of getting some laptop cooling like Lapcool or Notepal, but don't know what's better.
-
From what I've seen, laptop coolers will only make a difference of a few degrees (if that?), though I could be wrong...
I have 2 decks of cards I prop the bottom up with and I see similar results -
Have you tried undervolting? That usually cools things down quite comfortably...
-
Thanks for all the advises. I'll undervolt the cpu and under clock the gpu and see what happens then.

((The GPU's threshold is like 130C.))
If it gets that hot, you might as well kiss it goodbye.... -
68% idle is high not normal even for not being undervolted. i would maybe call your reseller. it should be 70% under load.
-
but is it running full speed or is dynamic switching turned on?

I would suggest you use MobileMeter from http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Oakland/8259/release/0310/mm0310.zip to monitor CPU speed and temperature. This software has a time-based graph so you can see how speed and temperature vary under different loading conditions. Background processes should provide a CPU load of no more than 5%.

Seems too hot if that's your idle temp. Contact your reseller and ask them to check the cpu, probably wasn't seated properly.
-
Yeah even if it is not undervolted with your muliplier at 13x
Your idle temp should be around the low 60s in Celsius. -
I'm probably gonna contact my reseller which is canadasys about this. Since the problem still haunts me now. It seem that the video card might be overheating too because idle temperature is around 75C with fan @ 50% and it is underclocked to 100/100 too.

I just love answering these threads. Your temps are VERY VERY normal. For the most part all the posts above are incorrect sorry guys
. 60C @ idle is a bit low 65C idle is more like all z70. 85C @ 100% load. After some use and some dirt in the radiator 90C at full load after a few hours is absolute tops. No need to worry. Let it be. Its fine.

Wow, thanks for clearing things up. I was just worried if it's too hot because I tried searching for a standard temperature as a reference but couldn't find anything convincing.
-
Lonewolfy, don't worry, Eddy has lots of experience with this stuff and if he says it's a normal temp it is normal. Lots of people will have varrying temperatures, even though some people may thinik it's hot, I ran my system a 2.0ghz system at normal settings without messing with stock and it did run in the mid to high 60's at high performance settings. So don't worry. Remember it's under warranty so if it goes bad on you it is covered.
Plus the guys at Canadasys are well established and KNOW how to install a CPU in a notebook, so I'm sure they didn't screw up the CPU installation.
Cheers,

No problemo. Sorry i wasnt going off there i just spend hundreds of man hours explaining this stuff on the forum and a good percentage of my posts on forum is the same repatative stuff dealing with normal temps. I wish there was a sticky about this becuase this has to be like the 200th time i ve seen the same post and the same outcome just in one year.
-
Haha, I feel you Eddie. I feel you, same thing over and over and over and over and over and over......
-
ok so now when my z70va hits 95c during load 2 nights in a row that cant be normal.....
-
when was the last time you cleaned out your fan and vents?
-
in the year ive owned it? never whats the easyest way to do this
-
Using compressed air and forcing it into the vents on the notebooks, should be enough to dislodge any dust that may be preventing and resricting the airflow. The dust is most likely the cause of the high temperature, because it will stop air from moving through the cooling system, and thats why the processor reaches such a high temperature.

you can use compressed air to partially alleviate the GPU clogged radiator. the only way to clean the gpu is to remove the fan and heatsink which you should not attempt. as for the cpu. take the cpu cover off. remove the fan and remove the lint from the inside of the radiator. it should have a pretty thick layer of it. blowing it out from the outside will not help
