    G'day All

This is one of the nicest notebooks I have ever owned, Asus have done well.
I have added an M.2 NVME SSD 4x Pcie (Samsung 950 Pro) to the unit and it installed with no problems
    with Windows UFEI installation
This notebook is billed as being blistering fast, but it just doesn't run quite right.
I keep getting WHEA-Logging warning errors in the system logs and others at shutdown.
These errors point to the PCIE Express Root Ports there are three loaded successfully in
device manager. If I remove the M.2 network card this helps as it is associated with on of
    the PCIE ports.

I have re-loaded windows on a normal HD with the PCIE SSD removed and the WHEA errors
stop, however the USB3.0 is still slow.

I have noticed that the USB3.0 performance is down by about 20% and that there are no
USB3.1 drivers supplied by Asus, This machine has all the correct drivers loaded from the
Asus site, the Bios is the latest, and Windows 10 is completely up to date.

Does anybody else who owns of these notebooks experience the same problems.

    Cheers

Windows 10 has native USB 3.0/3.1 support; usually the OEMs do not provide an additional driver for Windows 10 because of this. Also, remember that USB data throughput operates in "burst" speeds, so you're likely to see spikes and sags in data transfer (and probably rarely ever see the maximum advertised speed).

The WHEA errors I'm unsure of, though. Have you tested your CPU with software? You're not overclocking anything, are you?

Thank you Prostar Computer for your reply

No not overclocking. CPU is ok because all is well on a clean installation with conventional Hard Drive
The conventional hard drive does not use 4 lanes of PCIE ports.
The M.2 NVMEx4 SSD however uses these 4 lanes of PCIE and that's when I get the WHEA errors.
Also the network card and video card also use PCIE lanes.

I think there is some contention with the PCIE root ports when an M.2 NVME x4 is used
Defiantly slow on the USB3.0 side, I have a Sandisk Extreme with Crystal Disk Mark loaded.
Other computers show around 250MBs sequential read speed.
The N552VX only gets 210MBs if its lucky.

It looks like I may have to wait for a BIOS update.

    Cheers TheOldTech.

    You're welcome @TheOldTech

Interesting... Unless this really is a firmware issue, you might be looking at a hardware limitation with the PCIe bus. Hard to say, as we don't have a system for reference.

Any idea which USB 3.0 controller the computer is using? (I imagine Intel, but not sure.)

rYes The USB3.0 is Intel, oddly no entries show for the USB3.1 port in device manager for the
    N-552VX

I found this link to a HP forum dedicated to their Skylake notebooks with WHEA-Logger errors
It also seems from other peoples posts that so far AUS and Acer all have the same problem
on their Sykylake platforms. The HP forum concluded that by disabling the Realtek LAN network
controller in device manager it helped with the WHEA errors. I have done that and so far so good
It would appear that Intel may have a problems with their PCI Express Root Ports as the problem is across a number of manufactures

Did you manage to find a solution to the problem with your N552 ?

I have the same problem with a N552VW and have contacted ASUS support in South Africa. Looks like I will have to send it in to be looked at as my error log has already hit 16500 entries in a few days

I am using a workaround that stops the errors, all you have to do is disable the Ethernet LAN driver in device manager. In my case I only use Wi-Fi so disabling the LAN dos not inconvenience me. Hopefully they will fix it.

Mine seems to be the other way around. I have to disable WiFi to stop the errors. Is a bit of a problem as it negates the whole point of having a laptop.

I have also done a full reload of Windows and the problem is still the same. As soon as I loaded the WiFi driver the WHEA errors started.

I am sending the laptop to ASUS so they can look at the issue as it definitely looks like a hardware problem.

If they find the issue and fix it, it would be great if you could follow up here about their findings (for posterity).

Will do so. I should know in a few days what the outcome is.

Just a follow up on the problem on my Vivobook N552VW. Asus were unable to resolve the issue and are now refunding me for the laptop. The local South African Asus technical department tested two units they had on hand and one had the same fault. I personally think it is a problem with Skylake and incompatible hardware..

Ah, I wasn't expecting that. Too bad that they were unable to do anything about it, but glad that they're offering your money back at least. Thanks for the follow up!
