I want to have a survey here. I am talking about Asus ensemble notebook. What is N.A. most wanted model and specs, I want to figure out what specs it should have to be the best seller in NA. You can name the chasis, specs and the coming soon technology.
Thanks
Danny

well i like the g1, the only thing i would change is make it have a 7200 rpm HD (at least 100gb) and a DX10 card. Other than that.... it'l great! (o, maybe ofer a clean version of vista w/o other software)
-
g1 with t7600 and dx10 card
the perpendicular 5400rpm seems to be ok for me...
oh yeah... and vista ultimate 64 bit -
A W3J with 2.0GHz Centrino Pro (Santa Rosa), the DX10 nVidia 8600GPU and a 1280 x 800 screen (the older one had 1280 x 768), 120GB HDD, modular DVDRW drive, 2GB memory. Price: $1800...
That is, if we are looking at upcoming technology. -
The W3 is dead, not going to come back.
In that being said, something along the lines of the V-series(perhaps something like V3-5), in a 10", 12" and 14" flavors, a line of slim ultraportables. And put a promotion along with the XG Station, and its a go
Something along the lines of:
V3-5
Under 1" thick
Core 2 Duo(ULV for the 10")
1gb onboard 667mhz ram + 1 free slot for maximum thiness
Slot drive OD
Enlarged touchpad + stylus(a la Eco-Book)
LED screen
Right side vent(trust me on this hah).
Docking station on V-series compatiable(look above)
DVI/HDMI
Integrated or crappy low graphics card
Discount on XG Station -
how about the w6fp ?
not the most wanted for sure, but really nice, much better to have the 13.3 instead of the 11.1 -
Ok, if the W3 is dead, I think I'll take an R1J: same thing as the R1, but with a Go7400 like in the W7. Oh yea, and a T7200 with that.
-
The perfect notebook in my opinion, you take the features and power of the A8JS and throw them in the body of the W3J, giving you the perfect combo of power and build quality.
-
something like the W7J, thats actually upgradable to 2GB (not just 1.5) and houses the upgraded form of a go7400 (like...maybe a go8400) with DX10 compatability. STill 13.3 on an EIGHT-CELL battery.

the most wanted thing i wanted...Asus isn't making anymore...the w3j with the santa rosa chips. But what would be nice though would be the V series with the santa rosa, a real good dx10 gfx card 2gb ram min. 100gb 7200rpm etc.
Or we can like petition Asus to bring back the w3j model and make it even better! -
W3 series ... they simply have an awesome look, build quality ...
-
Currently using a W3J.
What I'd like to see:
-The ability to auto-switch to integrated graphics while on battery (without restarting).
-14" WXGA+ display
-Very thin (thinner than the W3J)
-Docking station compatible with the Optical drive in the docking station, especially if it allows for a thinner/lighter notebook.
-DVI out on the notebook and/or docking station. -
Portable notebook with a modular battery bay without dedicated graphics!
-
I want the W3-series back + dvi-port. When I get this I'm happy and no further goals in live
-
lots of requests to bring back the w3 series...i smell a petition...even though i doubt we could ever mass enough petition to Asus for them to have enough business incentive to reinstate the w3 series >.<
-
Ah... yes, i like the design of the W3 as well (thou i dun live in n.america), V2 is nice but it still lacks the power from the W3. Oh, just a note, i kinda like the new upcoming bamboo cover laptop, it's really nice. Hope it gets some nice spec, would love to see a nvidia 8600 or a X2600 in it..
-
I'd love to see what ASUS could come up with to compete with the Q2010 from Fujitsu...
-
I'm hoping to see some sort of resurrection of SLIM 15" machines... like the V6. The V1 and V2 lines aren't cutting it for me... something as slim as the Macbook Pros would be nice.
-
The thing about the W3 is that, it has had the most amount of RMA's of all ASUS notebooks from what I've heard. That was the main reason it went EoL.
-
I love my W3j
I would love to have slightly better graphic card, 160 gb sata hdd and santa rosa -
-
VX2 (64 bits) with a 120GB 7200RPM HD, not 5400RPM like the VX1 please. Thank you.
-
Getting S6F & U1 sans leather would be nice.
-
i echo AuroraS and coriolis: V6-styled 13-15" widescreen.
specific aesthetics:
- ~1" thick, but not cheating like 1" thick in the front and 2.2" in the back (the Sony cheeseslice). basically thinner than the current W3.
- magnetic latch: no crummy breakable button-latches.
- V6 hinge. reduces vertical footprint while maintaining the same screen height.
- durable palmrest (i.e. brushed aluminum)
- fingerprint friendly LCD cover (i.e. W1-3 brushed aluminum or V6 magnesium-alloy)
- unobtrusive webcam (i.e. NOT like the W5,7)
specific specifications:
- 'sweet-spot' CPU. not the highest, fastest , biggest-battery-eating, most-heat-generated-evar chip. but the one that is priced reasonably where the differential between the next lower and the next higher chip is like 1:4 (e.g. chip X1 is $50 more expensive than chip X0, but $200 cheaper than X2).
- Seagate 5400 rpm hybrid HDD (the Flashy kind) with at least 100 GB
- 2.0 GB RAM standard. especially with Vista Super-fetch. 1GB sticks should be cheaper with 2GB sticks on their way.
- integrated graphics/discrete graphics hybrid (like Sony SZ). actually, i'd be okay with just the integrated graphics, but it'd be nice to have the option of saving battery life. the video card doesn't have to be a beast. there are gaming systems for that.
basically, i'm pushing for an Asus machine that is an upgrade on the Z63a, which was quietly one of the more popular models in its time because it combined affordability with sleek looks and more than enough performance for casual users. as mentioned earlier, the V1/V2 just don't cut it in the looks department. priced from $1300-$1600 and i'd snap that up. preferrably $1300. -
"integrated graphics/discrete graphics hybrid (like Sony SZ)"
Yes, I like to see that in ASUS as well. Also, using of a 7200RPM instead of 5400RMP in near-future notebook -
- While it doesn't have to be the best graphics chip out there, a GPU that can handle a game without any problems would be awesome
- Battery life of 3 hours or greater under normal usage
- No integrated cam, useless feature that adds to the price for me
- High resolution (at least WSXGA+)
- Solid construction
- 802.11n
Think that covers the major stuff I'd like (the VX2 would cover these I suppose, but I don't know if I could justify 3 grand on something that would soon be outdated). -
VX2 With!
Santa rosa
T7700
4Gb ram
128GB SSD
Go 8600 or better
LED display
But price only 2000$ -
North americans want a 15.4 inch with the 256 bit gpu
-
a 9-cell on v1jp with T7600, 160gb SSD, 4 gb ram and dx10 card.
oh and in 'copper brown' color -
An updated W1Jc with back-lit keyboard (SKEET!).
-
SSDs are like $3600 LOL!
-
something with a similar to V1 chassis, T7300, 2gb ram, geforce 8600/8700 or ati x2600 or x2700, and a 100gb 7200rpm disk. roughly $2000
-
Definlty the Asus V2
-
I think G1 , 2.33 Ghz, nVidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX, 3 GB RAM and 240 GB 10.000 RPM
-
go7900gs dx10 equivalent in a w3j chassis (14-15" under 1" thick , under 5lbs)
isn't there anybody waiting to play crysis/supreme commander that also travels everywhere for work?
also would like to see... higher than 1280x800 res, enough battery for 2 DVD's in a row, although neither are necessary...
calssic asus high build quality and a nice bright/high contrast screen is a must though -
-
Well, I won't give specific models, but anything with these specs would get serious consideration from me:
- Intel Core 2 Duo Centrino Pro (that might be a bit redundant)
- nVidia DX10 card
- 15.4" screen with resolution at or above 1600x1200 (or a widescreen variant)
And then to round it out...
- 1.5+ DDR800 RAM
- 7200RPM HDD with a capacity at or above 80GB -
A notebook like Asus G1, just smaller and not so childish design.

Everyone who wants 4 GB of RAM in a notebook should stop suggesting it. Seriously. Almost nobody will pay an extra $1500 to stick 2 GB sticks into a notebook. It certainly wouldn't be profitable for Asus to offer it.
-
A v1/2 chassis and put the vent on the back. Make the notebook run as cool as the g1.

oh yeah and switch the Fn and Ctrl buttons
small but able to tear games apart -
Make the 14" widescreen have as good viewing angles as the g1 screen. Add a Momentus 5400 PSD hard drive. Have a dx10 card.

Looking forward for the V2 too. Hopefully it gets good reviews! It looks so much more professional than the a8js. -
I want a 15.4" version of the Sharp MM20
.6" thick
somewhere around 4.5lbs
an LED 1600x1200 screen
DVI out
magnesium case
decent video card (but doesn't need to be "gamer" level)
docking station
slot load thin opticalAttached Files:
-
-
yeah, slot-in drives would definitly be a great thing. I mean is there even 1 advantage of those tray drives?
-
what happens if the cd gets stuck in a slot load? is there an emergency eject?
-
Slot DVDs can not take mini-CDs. As well, Slot Drives are usually much slower and only a handful are out, with lack of firmware for some.
To be honest, majority of these ideas won't work realistically, so come on, keep it real haha -
If they refuse to bring back the W3 at least put a real nice video card into the V2 and V1. Maybe offer it like they do with the A8's. With a couple different video options. They can already fit a go7700 in the V1 cause they are putting them into the VX2 and they share the same chassis. The W3 sold well when it had the best video card in a 14" laptop. The W3 was a great laptop. I think a lot of people would buy into a new system that looked that hot with simmilar specs. The V line are some really nice looking systems, I think they can appeal to more then just the business world.
