wow, hope they bring it to amazon.ca :).

It's even cheaper than the SV which basically has a larger hard drive and an extra year of warranty.

This review is for the 14 inch N43SL which has more or less the same specs. Apparently the 14 inch got 2.5 hours during intensive testing and 5.5 hours of normal testing.

    Asus N43SL - Review - Notebook And Tablet Pcs | TechSmart.co.za

I'd guess something similar in the N53SV. I think that would make it a good deal better than the i5 N53JF with i5, which I think gets about 4-4.5 hours of normal use.

LOL I ordered the N53SV-XE1 last night from tigerdirect for $959

Was not aware of the XV1 designation but that makes at least three.
Newegg has the A1 designation for $1250 as far as I can see the only thing it has over the XE1 I ordered is a bigger hard drive (moot because I am SSDing) and a 2 year warranty.

Looks like the XV1 has the full HD screen that the XE1 and A1 do not have (both have standard 1366x768 diplay according to pages)

Also bear in mind before you order that the N53SN is not out yet. Mostly it is the same options it looks like with one key difference, the 550 w/ 2GB instead of the 540 w/ 1GB. Not worth waiting for IMO if I am gonna have that hardcore of a gaming session to where that matters I will do it on my desktop.

According to a Malaysia ASUS page, the N53SN has been delayed until March. On the other hand, I need a laptop for school as soon as I can get it.

The N53SV having a full HD screen is the moment I have been waiting for. I just put in a pre order and since I'm an Amazon Prime member I get rush 1 day delivery for only $4.

I was close to ordering a Sager NP5160, but I would much rather own the ASUS.

I am a prime member as well who also pre-ordered the XV1...I really wanted a 14" screen but I couldn't pass up a sandy bridge with 1920x1080 for only $1050.

The i5 460m w/ a BD-ROM drive (also with 1920x1080) for $1029 is kinda tempting also but I will wait it out...

Anyone have any idea of when these might ship???

    Nothing special on n53sv.
I had one for a couple of days (return it) and i got around 3 hours on moderate use. My old asus f3jp gave me that on the 1st time.

    Sorry can't remember.
I only tested the battery when i had already decided to return it so i forgot to check.
Took a lot of photos but forgot the battery (maybe because it's not important for me)
    I had Asus N53SV-SX018V:

Hey slowdive, can you tell me why did you decide to return the N53SV?

I was considering buying the N53SV-A1 from Amazon.com, but after learning about the XV1 with FHD display, I'm torn now because it sounds perfect but I need to buy a sandy bridge laptop within the next couple of days. And after looking at all the currently available options within my budget and requirements, the N53SV-A1 seems like the best one... I'm just worried if I'll be kicking myself for not getting a laptop with a FHD display.

    Good question. Me too!

The difference that I know between N53SV-A1 and N53SV-XV1:

    1. Price more than $150
    2. FHD Display
    3. Hard Disk 750gb vs 500gb
    4. Battery - Don't know???
    5. Warranty 2years/1year accidental vs 1years/1year accidental.
    6. Optimus??
    7. Any other differences???

    Best regards,

I wish the US models had blu-ray.

I'd love to hear any impressions from people who own/owned/used the any of the sandy bridge N53SV, especially on the quality of the LCD display. I need to make a purchase decison by tomorrow.

I wonder if they got wind of the Sandy Bridge chipset flaw they announced this morning?

The product page on the ASUS site for the Sandy Bridge models got pulled...They were there last night but not there now.

Guess this isn't gonna ship anytime soon...

I decided to try smaller notebooks (14") because i'll carry it everyday, everywhere.
I only had a few software problems, even after i removed all the trash that came with n53sv. Basically some programs just "freeze" but they didn't consume any resources or make the asus stop working.

After the sandy bridge fiasco, I wonder if I should cancel my Amazon preorder. I don't want a defective laptop (especially since I will be using my eSata) but I also don't want to lose my place in line to receive the laptop when it is released without issues.

    Any ideas?

I thought the sandy bridge design error was only for desktops? I don't know much about the specific hardware issues, but it sounded to me like it was mainly an issue for sandy bridge desktop motherboards. Not really sure...

I'd say keep the preorder, even if I'm wrong in my assumptions about the error.

This N53 has a hard drive, optical drive and a eSata port...three sata devices. only 2 SataIII inputs so one device (probably eSata) would be affected by this issue...

I pre-ordered one last week and still waiting for the official word from either Asus or Amazon to see what is going to happen...

Does any have more specs on this? Does it have Optimus, ExpressCard? How many mPCIe? I notice that it has max 16 GB RAM compared to 8 GB on NP5160 Sager.

Where can we order, since Amazon removed it?

    Thanks.

Amazon was the first and only to offer this version of the N53. I preordered it when the page was up and while Amazon did take it down, they have not canceled my preorder. Yes, it does have optimus and express card support fyi.

The only thing really to do is wait. If the N53SN is available in March I may just ordered that model with the video card I really wanted.

Looks like XoticPC put the preorder back online this weekend. They list the ship date as middle to late March.

Maybe the XoticPC rep on this forum can confirm that for us. But the page is here: ASUS N53SV-A1

    Hi there,

I don't know very much. However, the differences I know are:

    1. XV1 is considerably cheaper.
    2. XV1 has a smaller hard drive 500gb vs. 750gb for A1.
    3. 1 year warranty for XV1 vs. 2 years for A1.
    4. Though, the XV1 has a higher resolution, surprising? Can anyone confirm this?

    Not sure about:

    1. The power of the battery, as there are two types of batteries offered on ASUS site, 48,000 vs. 52,000?
    2. Built in Bluetooth?

    Don't know:

    1. If the N53Sv has the Nvidia Optimus technology or not?

    Best regards,

To answer your questions, XV1 does have the Full HD monitor which is precisely the reason why I want that model.

The N53SV's both have Nvidia Optimus support .

Ended up cancelling my pre-order and getting a refurb'd Dell 14" (in sig) for $818 instead...I think I will be happier with a 14" laptop (even though resolution is only 1400x900, I am very happy with it).

Hope you guys don't have too wait too long for this guy to ship...Good luck....

You guys think the N53SN would be a good upgrade from my U81 (U80)? I got it for college, and for the most part it's been great for a year and a half. Now it has a nearly broken clicker and the lack of decent gaming capability is annoying.

A FHD screen sounds really enticing coming from a 1366x768 screen, not to mention the quadcore SB + being paired with the SSD I already have or a future SandForce 2000 SSD...ughhhhhh man.

I wish they would stop putting the VGA port on there though. Anyone actually use that nowadays?

I'd say definitely, since I'm in the same boat (UL80vt). The C2D CULV is now really struggling to keep up, and the lack of graphic performance means I can only play anything that is made before 2003.

The only concern I have is the battery life. Sure, with the custom 9 cell battery, N53SV can theoretically last up to 6 hours doing web surfing. But until Anand reviews it, nobody knows for sure.
