For me it is very important to arrival, anyone know anything about it ....
I have been told to begin to deliver in mid-March for those who have already made a pre order?? -
I ordered four of these to get me to 16gb ram: Amazon.com: Corsair 4 GB DDR3 Laptop Memory CMSO4GX3M1A1333C9: Electronics

The N53SV-XE1 is already out on Amazon, only draw back is it's 720p. But a fast quad core and 540M GPU for 899, that's bang for the buck right there.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, in stock. If you pre-ordered get in touch with Amazon. I did a live chat with them and they said my order was not processing right due to a technical reason. They pushed it through the system and upgraded me to one day shipping for free. Estimated delivery is 3/19!
-
Mine already shipped out! I should be getting it in two weekdays. I was one of the early birds who preordered at the end of Jan. / early Feb.

I'm posting from my N53SV-XV1! It came yesterday, but I didn't get home until this morning.
I hate to start with the bad, but a few things I noticed right off-the-bat:
- Mine has *NO* eSATA port, despite the photos and description on Amazon. Where it should be, it's just a standard USB port. I'm interested to hear if anyone else receives different.
- The keyboard is kind of squishy. I haven't had any problems typing on it so far, but it will probably take me a bit to get used to the feel.
- The power brick is big. Probably about 2.5x the size of my previous HP one.
- It is probably on the larger size for a 15.6-inch display notebook. I kind of knew that before hand.
Pros:
- The display is beautiful. I can already see myself getting work done faster with the extra real-estate. Very nice and bright.
- Fairly quiet. The CPU fan does spin at idle usage. Going to see what can be done about that.
- Everything loads very fast and is "snappy". Haven't tried anything intensive yet though.
- 16GB of Memory!!
I'm moving from a 4 year old HP dv6103nr that has had significant upgrades. (2.0 C2D/3GB DDR2/500GB SATA) -
I've heard that it's big for a 15.6", but is it small enough to be convenient for college use?
It's good to hear about the screen, lots of other reviews have said the 768 screen isn't that great. Also, can you use a 1600x900 resolution on the laptop?
And finally how's the battery life for average web browsing?
Thanks in advance. -
Hi everyone,
I also received mine yesterday and I can say that:
-There is no e-sata port, as mentioned before. Shame.
-It is not possible to force a a graphics system in the bios (sucks big time for linux, meaning I am stuck with Intel Graphics).
-The Keyboard takes some getting use to.
-Has a numpad
-The screen is nice, but requires calibration (as always)
-Sound is good for a laptop with the usual weakest link in bass
-Good multitouch trackpad from Elan
-*Very* snappy
-Quiet
To answer the questions above. This thing is heavy and bulky. I would not carry it around. This is a desktop replacement more than anything.
Al in all, I'm happy with my purchase. I'll further test today. I plan on adding a clean reinstall of Windows at some point with an install of ArchLinux as a main OS.
I am considering upgrading to an SSD. I have to find a suitable model now, any suggestions? -
If you're going for performance, either OCZ Vertex 3 or Intel 510 would do very well. If you're looking for balance between performance and budget, you can go with the last generation OCZ Vertex 2.

Even on the ASUS product page for this laptop, it states that it has eSATA
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Notebooks - ASUS N53SV
1 x Line-in Jack
1 x Microphone-in jack
1 x Headphone-out jack
1 x VGA port/Mini D-sub 15-pin for external monitor
2 x USB 2.0 ports
1 x RJ45 LAN Jack for LAN insert
1 x HDMI
1 x E-SATA -

Laptop is clearly missing a eSATA port. In it's place it is regular USB port and it is not a combo port either. Connector itself only accepts USB. Comparing manual picture to the laptop - the port even looks different.
-
coz if you remember, that issue with sandy bridge has something to do with SATA ports, right?
but I think its unfair that they did not announce that the new laptops would not have an eSata port.
I think I'll go and visit Taiwan to checkout the N53SV-XV1 myself before buying. -
Just found this:
Intel Provides Update on Support Chip Design Issue -
Though I read that Intel HM55 is not affected. Is that true?
Can you guys, who got it, write a more detailed review. Really thinking of buying it soon.
Would like to know how's the battery life?
and real measurements if possible.
Thanks! -
The chipset issue only affects devices that are connected to the 1.5Gbps SATA ports. Since a user typically cannot connect anything to these ports inside a laptop, where is the problem? -
They recalled all faulty SB chips, all that's on the market now are fixed.
-
The issue was with the Cougar point chipset on the Sandy Bridge motherboards. Devices that are connected to the 1.5Gbps SATA ports had a chance of deteriorating over time which would affect drive performance.
All of the Sandy Bridge motherboards have at least two 3.0Gbps ports in addition to the 'bad' 1.5Gbps ones. If Asus connected the Hard drive and the DVD Drive to these 3.0 ports on these 'bad' motherboards, this issue will not affect anyone.
I am pretty sure that connecting devices to the SATA ports inside a laptop is not as easy as a desktop and that 99.9% of the people out there are not ever going to do this... -
Problem is not with internal SATA, but the fact that eSATA (external) port is missing from this (ASUS)laptop even though it is advertised that it has it. Since I use external SATA drives, it is a problem. Now, I'm stuck with this laptop.

How is the keyboard flex issue on this one??

Put two and two together to see how my post might be useful to him. -
Thanks, I’m well aware of the available adapters and docking stations that could be used to get around it. However, they are not convenient and most of us who are using this feature are kind of duped. I don't believe I need to pay for something extra that was supposed to be there. Also, I have a suspicion, that ASUS is unloading old stock with the problematic chipset. Why else, they would remove this port? I called ASUS tech support. They are clueless. Person on the phone says...”what do you mean it has no eSATA port….?” They did not believe it, so I had to send pictures. It is very suspicious. So...., I am returning laptop.
-
Can someone tell me how much battery life you would get with this if you got a 9 Cell with it?
-
@Buildr, yeah dude, just return the laptop. you don't have to spend extra for something that was supposed to be built-in to the unit. tell them the item is not as described.
I think Asus is pulling a fast one on the "Early birds".
such a dirty move by Asus. -
I agree, i was on the phone with asus support for over an hour, all the offered me was an appology. I had to return my N53SV-XV1 because of this missing esata port. Thankfully, Newegg gave me a full refund because their website listed it with an esata port. Asus should be ashamed. I dont even think they even "fixed" these motherboards, probly jus replacing the esata with a usb port is their definition of fixing the sandybridge recall
can anyone confirm that there does exsist N53SV-XV1 laptops WITH an e-sata port?
because mine arrived without any e-sata ports!
