Okay, so I picked up this N53TA (AMD Version of N53SV) from a garage sale.
It was working fine when I installed Windows. Then I tried to install a DOS related WiFi driver, and it shut off instantly
Now there's absolutely no signs of life whatsoever. Nothing lights up. No power from the battery, and no power from the charger. I've removed the battery and nothing lights up at all. The system has no power, and will not power on. It's as if it's not receiving any power at all.
I've tried removing the battery and holding down the power button for 1 minute but to no avail. Is my laptop completely fried??

Something else could have fried out. If comfortable start removing parts to see if you can find a damaged part. RAM, HDD, WiFi card, CPU etc.

The power connector looks fine. There are no blown capacitors on the motherboard either. -

Damage isn't always visible. People kind of operate under the presupposition that when they suspect something has "fried," that means something is burned and therefore noticeable, but electrical failure often occurs and is not visible.
But it does definitely sound like hardware failure, and not related to you installing that driver. Given what you've said here, it sounds like the board, but you can look into swapping out components where you can to test and narrow down the problem with more certainty.Last edited: Jul 7, 2015 -

It could be as simple as a transistor shorted in one of the millions inside causing a short or a weak connection splitting apart that prevents the machine from turning on.

I'm seeing a similar issue with "No signs of life" on a UX-31E, I measured 20V with a multi-meter at the power port for the main PCB, and 4V which quickly drops to 2V at the battery pack connector, yet the power button on the keyboard does not bring it alive.
Are there any schematics for the power distribution on this? Pretty odd that the switch is a key on the keyboard...
Also, the CMOS battery had about 2.8V (most likely a 3V battery)
Any thoughts guys?
