Can anyone explain what this new BIOS 217 update is in laymans terms...i have read that it has something to do with the EC firmware, but that is as far as i got?
    Is it worth updating?

There is already 217 version? I'm still on 203. :)

Unfortunately I have no idea what EC firmware stand for, hopefully someone does. I really hope that Asus added Fn lock since version 203.

Btw, I have N56VJ and the latest version of BIOS is 203 - which I already have. Can I use BIOS from N56VZ to update my N56VJ machine?

I did a Google Search of EC firmware - "Embedded Controller" came up.

Here's a line from the Wiki - "The ThinkPad has an embedded microcontroller (EC) which is responsible for many of the background tasks on a laptop."

I don't know exactly what it means in detail - but maybe it controls power consumption, processor sleep states, hibernation etc.?

EDIT: Just saw this response from Nipsen over on another thread - "EC is "embedded controller" at least.. Suspend/resume signals. what happens with hardware events. Voltage control, that sort of thing."

Now if only ASUS gave us more information about their BIOS updates.

Hi IceJoki Did you install the 217 on your VJ?

Has anyone installed the 217 on the N56VJ? Thanks.
