Can someone please tell me what type of screw holds the drive in place? I removed the rubber on the back where the drive is located but it is not a Philips type screw underneath. Or am I not understanding how to remove the drive??
The drive (Matshita/Panasonic BD-MLT UJ240AF) no longer plays anything. In the BIOS it is registered but on the Boot Menu, only the SSD drive shows. It used to show when I first got the laptop.
Windows Device Manager shows no problems and Explorer shows the drive.
I cannot locate any updated firmware nor can I update the drivers.
I just rather buy another one but I need to be able to get the drive out first.
Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert.
I can't seem to find a clear picture of the screw. If it's not Philips, I would imagine it's a torque screw; Asus has used both. Once you have the screw out, the drive can be pulled out fairly easily, though. You may need to remove the mounting bracket from the old drive and affix it to the new drive, if the new drive doesn't come with one. Afterwards, you just slide the new drive in and put the screw back.
If that screw isn't a torque, take a picture and post it here for us to take a look at.Last edited: May 3, 2016 -
I think that is the one. Torx security. Is that what ASUS uses?

Yep, that's the type of screw it is. Know of any way besides getting a torque screw driver to take out the screw?

Yep, that looks like the one. They've used it in their N55 models also. You might be able to finagle a Philips or the like in there with a rubber band to fill in the cutout and gain a grip, but I stress "might." A torx screwdriver/screw bit would be your simplest bet. -
I have torx screwdrivers heads but they won't fit and anyway I think it's stripped! Will try your method otherwise, pardon the pun...screw it!!!
Thanks for your input.
Greatly appreciated,
Robert
