Hello
I want to change the current hdd in my Asus N56VM with an SSD. Can anyone explain to me how can I accomplish this?
I have been playing with my screwdriver for hours but I cannot disassemble it.
Thanks

I believe on that model you have to take out the keyboard and remove screws from underneath it before doing a full teardown to do that upgrade. Here is a video on the N73 teardown, they should be relatively similar but screw placement is most likely different.

I do apologize, this is one of the models I haven't seen torn down with my own eyes. I tried looking for a disassembly video all over the net and couldn't find one. I'll continue looking and see if there are any suggestions our production guys have that are commonly overlooked.
Update: We have a N56 model in back and it's just a single screw on the bottom of the laptop that pops up the HDD spot. If you have it upside down with the side that opens up towards you, it would be on the right side. Should pop up the entire length to access the RAM and HDD. -
Apart from putting in an SSD, is it a case of burning a windows dvd forst then booting from the optical drive to install?
Also what is the SSD interface type on these.. thanks in advance.... Rich -

yes you will need a copy of a windows disc. You will need to boot to the disc to install the copy of windows. The ssd interface is SATA which is pretty standard -
Re. SSD for N56VM
I have a clean Win 7 Pro install on a SanDisk 240GB SSD in my N56VM.
With the lid closed and face down on a clean cloth:
Remove the sticky back blanking plug at bottom centre. Keep to one side - it can be reused.
Using a small Phillips screwdriver take out the single fixing screw.
It is worthwhile removing the SD blank, just in case!
Using finger pressure on the feet slide the cover plate towards you. Left side is easy but more difficult on the right. Slight down pressure on the right side, back edge helps.
HDD is now accessible on your left - gently release the connector.
Remove HDD from carrier - 4 phillips screws
Your SSD should fit, no spacers required.
Reverse the above and close up - you did keep the blanking plug!!
I disabled UEFI in the BIOS and then took a long time doing a clean install. Read up on SSD setup, bloatware, Intel software, chipset etc before committing.

Yeah, just need to remove one phillips screw on the back plate (under a rubber thing with glue on). Four + 1 screw on the hdd rail, etc.
You have a few options for installing windows on the new disk. A mirror, an Asus backup disc set, or a new install with a later image. Links and things like that in the guide in my sig. -
Thanks for the replies guys. SSD delivered, installed and all working fine.
