    Hello,
I've purchased a laptop N56VZ (Win7, 6GB RAM, 750GB HD) but I have tearing issues when I use my laptop with external screen.
When I set the display in clone mode in order to have both screens (LCD+external) show identically this is what I get:

LCD + external screen (via HDMI cable) ==> LCD is OK, external screen shows tearing
LCD + external screen (via VGA cable) ==> LCD tears, external screen is OK

Simply grab a window (File explorer, for example) and move it (or shake it) very quickly left and right. You can see the problem by doing this.

I must use my laptop for a (Flash based and Powerpoint) presentation with full animation on both screens.

I see that LCD screen is driven by HD4000 and external screen by GT650M. I just can't swap them.
Tried to disable HD4000 trying to have only GT650M driving both screens (LCD+external) without success, Disabling HD4000 left my LCD black.

    Is there any solution ?

    Thank you.
    Badjack

To my knowledge, it's the other way around. External displays are handled by the Intel HD graphics controller, although any major rendering is still deferred to the dedicated GPU.

Have you tried updating both the driver for your Intel graphics, as well as for your NVidia card?

    Yes. Still doesn't work.
This is what I've done (from Asus website)
    - Flashed with the latest Asus BIOS (BIOS 216, Update new nVIDIA VBIOS. date:2013.01.09)
    - Downloaded and installed latest nVidia Graphics Driver Version V8.17.12.9667 date:2012.06.14)
    - Downloaded and installed latest Intel Management Engine Interface Version V8.1.0.1252 date:2012.08.13)

    No progress.

Secondly I tried with these (from Intel and nVidia websites):
    - Downloaded and installed latest nVidia Graphics Driver Version 314.07 WHQL date:2013.02.18)
    - Downloaded and installed latest Display Drivers for Intel® Core™ Processors on 64-bit Windows 7* Version 15.17.18.2555 date3/13/2012)

    No progress.

    - Tried install with Windows8, same trouble.

To be clear, with Win7 or Win8 and all the latest drivers, the 'feature' remains.
I am really annoyed with this as it's impossible to have a mirrored clone display on both screen without hassle.

Any help, comment, suggestion are really appreciated.
    Thank you

Hi! I know this may be an obvious question: but is your laptop perhaps in power-save mode or is it in performance mode? Maybe it's one of the power saving features that has dropped the refresh rate or V-Sync of the display.

It could also be a refresh rate issue. Maybe there's something weird happening between the external monitor refresh rate and your current Laptop LCD setting. Maybe they're different or something. 40hz vs 60hz. Or maybe it's something similar. It sounds like ONE of them takes the lead, and then the other follows unsuccessfully.

I haven't tried a monitor mirror with this laptop yet. Will give it a try when I have a chance and get back to this thread. If I don't forget ;) I'll check back, hopefully someone finds a solution.

It may not be what you want to hear, but I recommend contacting Asus. There could be hardware at fault.

Has this been happening from day 1?

I think you should contact their support and have a RMA case set up. If you've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, then all that's left that I can think of is to try different cables - but since the issue is replicated in reverse with different ports, I'm thinking there's faulty hardware.
