    Hi all,

I've been looking everywhere for a laptop and I have narrowed it down to these two. Please help me choose. I wanted the hp envy15, but the problem with the red is a big no-no. Apparently the XPS15 has many problems and I don't really like it.

The N56 is really good, reliable graphics and processor, but looks abit big, loads slower and hard to carry around
The UX32 is portable, good battery, but lower specs compared to N56.

People will say that I should choose whatver I want, but what do you think? I need a laptop that will last me a while and that I will frequently use everyday... Sorry if my judgements above are inaccurate. I have just been reading lots of reviews for the past week.

Please help me. I need to find a computer that is good enough to play in high graphics/performance:
    - Guild Wars 2
    - Sims 3
    - Adobe Photoshop
    - Windows 8
    - Lightroom
    - Adobe Premier

    I am also looking for:
    - Good enough portability (travel abit)
    - I'm a film person, so many video editing
    - Around $1000-$1600
    - Awesome design
    - Yes. I'm asking for alot
    - Won't get hot so easily
    - Quick boot/startup/hibernation

    Hello,

The UX32 is a solid performer, although it's not quite a "high-end" gaming machine. Although you're concerned about the portability factor, you may want to further consider graphics power - especially if you intend to use the [demanding] applications you mentioned. I believe the UX32 uses GDDR3, which is a little outdated.

    Hopefully this helps!

    Best regards

..another advertisement for amd? :p Except the Lightroom bit. (Since it doesn't really offload to gpu, or run OpenCL.)

Both are good systems, all around. No bias. :D

    hehe. :)

But if you focus on portability, and as much battery time as possible, with the best 3d performance you can get - It's difficult to recommend anything else right now except a laptop with one of the a10-4665 apus.

Since for the type of use you lay out - if you want something that performs significantly better than that quad-core apu at 25w tdp, you have to get something with four cores and a dedicated card. So you might want to either look for i5/i7/kepler combos with extra large batteries, maybe lithium polymer batteries (hp, lenovo, samsung, Sony have a few). Or else the a10-4665 notebooks.

Thanks guys for all the comments above. Though its informative, it still does not give me a clear reason to which to choose. haha. I think you are all redirecting me to get a different laptop right now... *Head becomes that much more confused*

I guess everyone goes through it before buying a laptop haha

Between the two of those, I would recommend the N56. If you install an SSD and install Windows 8 with UEFI (not super difficult), you will have around a 10 second boot time and all programs will load ridiculously fast. I have not ever thought that it was too big or hard to lug around and I haul it to and from work and class daily. The battery life is good if you're just surfing or typing on it (5+ hours depending on actual usage), and if you just put it to sleep instead of shutting it down or hibernating it wakes up almost instantly, and it can stay in sleep mode for several days.

The performance of the Zenbook will be significantly less in every way and will be noticeable while rendering or playing games. Guild Wars 2, specifically, is very video-intensive but runs great on medium-high settings on my N56; the Zenbook will probably have to run it on low in order to be playable at 1920x1080.
