Hey guys, I just recently (this week) purchased an n61jq laptop. When playing Bad Company 2 in an air conditioned room, the the cores of the i7 720QM CPU hit a temperature of up to 84C and settle around 79 to 81 degrees during play. Also, as I type this thread, the cores are sitting between 51 and 56 degrees. For a graphics card, an in-game temperature of 80 sounds reasonable. But for a CPU? Isn't this kind of hot? Thanks in advance for the input guys :).

The temperatures are in quite normal range for this notebook. On my N71JQ I also have similar temps when CPU and GPU are under load.

I'm having a tough time deciding between the N61JQ and the N61JV. On Amazon, a number of people mention the heat in their reviews, but they don't sound concerned about it--it's more of a "by the way" thing.

But my last laptop died from overheating after three years, so it does make me hesitate.

On the other hand, the N61JV sounds like it runs cooler, but I've run across reports that the Nvidia driver still hasn't worked out all kinks for Optimus with some games. I would hate not being able to run a game because it thinks that all I have is the integrated graphics.

So that makes me lean more toward the N61JQ--but is heat in this laptop something to be concerned about?

Also--is the bottom of the N61JQ cool enough to use on my lap? When you say heat, you mean just the CPU/GPU temps, right? Or is this not a good laptop to use on a lap? Thanks!

I'm having trouble deciding between the same two myself!

Should definitely be cool enough to use in your lap, from my experience at least. And yea, i know there are some optimus problems. Not sure quite what to do with that, sorry
