Gentech posted a video showing the A1 and it seemed to have a backlit keyboard. I have an X1 on order and both of them don't seem to mention backlit keyboard in the specs. Does anyone Know if the new N61 series has this?
-
Yeh.. from video it looks like a backlit keyboard
-
Man that would be great! I got the X1 instead but I almost didn't because of no backlit keyboard. I can't wait until monday to open it up and see.
-
I don't think any of the N series have backlit keyboards, as far as I know. I think there are some lit keys, but idk. It would be a cool perk if it was backlit!
-
can ken/justing confirm this, please?
-
if it had such feature, it would be advertised on asus site, since it isn't, well, you get it...
-
Ken just confirmed this.
This machine has * NO* backlit KB. -
Thank's. To bad! Never mind
-
^ i know! I was secretly wishing this could have been a surprise package, which was not advertised. But ALAS! looks like there's nothign free.
-
does anybody knows if i could put a backlit keyboard?
-
Tried that already a while ago, I installed a backlit KB from G51Jx and connect the backlit cable to the MB and it didn't work.

no solution so far? -
I know that LordDavon in the owner's lounge was working on it but he had not much success so far. It seems he is very busy at the moment and does not find the time to work on it.
-
ok, thanks for the info.
i was asking there but i didn't get a response... -
It was the BIOS does not provide the feature to turn on the power of the KB backlit.

How has that worked out for you? I am looking to do the same thing.
I know my way around a computer and taking apart components but I am no professional. How difficult do you think it would be? -
Well I will apply the method shown in the link below on my N71JQ.

Here's another thread for Asus backlit keyboard mods. You definitely need to be comfortable with soldering to do it. -
After reading the keyboard mods I decided to do my N61JQ. I picked up the power from the USB on the right side. I spliced into the wiring harness to the USB (+5v and grnd) and installed a micro switch by drilling a hole into side of case.

Figured out an easier way to do the backlit keyboard mod today.
I was fiddling around with my dmm and saw that the motherboard header for the backlight has 5v, it just lacks ground. And the header itself is grounded.
So, I ran a little bead of solder from the left side of the header to the left two prongs.
Works like a charm. And it took about 5 minutes.
The main upside to this is that if I ever need to remove the keyboard, I can just unplug it.

I just got my backlit keyboard installed. I got it from Amazon.
Amazon.com: Generic Laptop Keyboard with Backlit Compatible with Asus G60 G51, G73, G60, G72, G73, U50v, Ux50 - 04gnv33kus01-3;us Layout: Computers & Accessories
I soldered the left 2 pins to the side ground as shown before. I used desoldering wick instead of just flowing the solder over.
