    Hello,

I read some not so great things on about the N73Q's touchpad and mouse keys - notebookcheck
    The review states:
Could owners please comment on the touchpad and two mouse buttons. The reason I ask is because I do a lot of work in photoshop. My current Inspiron 1720 is very smooth and accurate to use with scrolling in both directions. However my wife's newer Inspiron 1545 is irratic and pretty lousy. I'm also not interesting in an external mouse.

Is the keyboard the chiclet type? How's the quality of construction, flimsy, solid or? Does it work pretty well overall?

As a side note I recently bought a Sager 5170 and found the mouse buttons almost unusable they were so hard to click. An external mouse is would have been mandatory for any kind of extended usage/work. I am returning it today for a number of reasons, this being one of them.

    Thanks,

    Derek

Thanks, but I've already read through many of those posts (100s). And I didn't find much at all addressing these specific topics. I think it's better to sometimes start a thread addressing specific areas of a system rather pouring through 1000s of posts hoping to find an answer which may or may not be there to begin with. I also used Google to try an disect the monster thread but still didn't find much.

So If you're an owner and have any opinions on the touchpad or mouse buttons any input regarding the original question appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Derek

The trackpad surface is smooth but it does not recognize the multitouch features about 80% of the time. It's good to scroll up and down with two fingers, but all the other functions are almost useless.

If your fingers are too dry, sometimes the pad does not pick up movement.

The left click button is LOUD. Right click is almost inaudible but still has a noticeable "click" sound. This notebook is form over function. It's like they put it together but never tested it in real life. I would not use the left pad button around people since it drives me nuts and also other people nuts.

If you think the trackpad is bad, consider also the keyboard which is worse with no key separation.

Lastly, I really don't like the notebookforum's way of putting that many posts in one thread. There's nothing but repeat questions because no one reads that many posts just find one remote answer. Moreover, it would be excusable if the search function work but it doesnt. It's better to search the notebookforums on google. Try it! It works better! There should be a some sub-threads or sub-forums for specific areas of laptop and all that under a main thread.

I had a touch-pad problem on my N43. I rolled back the elan pad drives to the older ones and now it works fine. I must say now the touchpad is a tad sensitive though LOL as every time I start typing eventually for some reason the cursor move up a few lines and carry's on typing there which is driving me nuts!
