Whenever I connect headphones or speakers to analog audio output, quiet but annoying whimpering noise will appear ("play"), which is especially noticeable in headphones. It's independent of volume level, but it seems to change tone, amplitude and frequency when I'm active on computer, e.g. scrolling in browser.
I've already read about popping in built-in speakers but that is not the case in my situation. I have no problems with that whatsoever.

Same problem here, I have an Asus N76VZ with 16 gb RAM and after refreshing the system Ive noticed this annoying whimpering noise too... I dont remember hearing this before and still hoping this is only a software glicth. Hopefully Ill have enough time in the weekend to reinstall the system. Ill report back. -

If you're describing what I think you're describing, then it's probably related to grounding. I had a desktop that produced a subtle hum whenever I'd move the cursor (through the speakers connected via 3.5mm jack, not produced from the tower or any components).
If that's your case as well, I believe it has something to do with a ground loop.
