I'm looking around for a new laptop, and I got stuck on Asus because they seem to have decent design and specifications for the lowest amount of money.

What do people think of the N80Vn-A1? It goes for about $969. It has a T5800 2.0GHz, 4GB DDR2, nVidia 9650M GT 1GB DDR2 VRAM, 320GB HDD. I can't believe how cheap this is compared to some other brands.

Is there something better for the same money?

    Thanks for the link!

Are there other lappy's that might be better for under 1k?

uhh, don't get that, look at

    ASUS N80Vn-GP011C 14.1" 2.4GHz/4GB/320GB/DVD±RW Laptop
    NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT 1GB (1024MB) DirectX 10 Support

it is 1,159.00 but you can get a $200 rebate, and maybe some mail in rebates somewhere else.

anybody know what the expected battery life would be on this for regular office type use with wi-fi on? Also, why no 9 cell batt option?

My ASUS N80Vn-GP011C just arrived. Check out this post for details/etc.

This is "older brother" of the A1 spec, but everything else besides processor should be identical AFAIK.
