Maybe some people already know that I've been looking for a new laptop.
David and other people recommended me to get Asus N81VP-C1 for best 14"
laptop. After long consideration, I was going to order one from Xotic PC today. I was just about customizing the laptop from XoticPC.

However, I just found out from GentechPC that Asus N81VP-C1 is going to replace with N81VP-D1......

    What?! What?! What?!
When I spoke with Kevin(GentechPC) and Justin(XoticPC), they told me that there won't be anying new model. I didn't found any news article for this model.

    This is crazy!! amazing!!
I like to get some information about N81VP-D1. Any clue about this model? I'm going to hold until this model comes out. I like to get this new model as soon as it comes out.

The N81Vp-C1 is basically the same as the N81Vp-D1. It has the same chassis but most likely with slightly different specs.

I wonder what specs get change.
Since CPU can get upgrade to 2.93GH from resellers, I wonder whether D1 get better graphic card or not.....

If I'm not mistaken, Asus tend to release lower spec models as the alphabet goes down (from A1 -> X1) for example.

This will probably still be a capable model, but slightly cheaper.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

My guess is that the GPU will most likely stay the same, but the CPU and HDD will be slightly different.

Not quite.... G71G-A1 and G71G-Q2 doesn't follow that scheme.

I just got following message from Ken(GentechPC)

    Hello,
Yes the C1 is end of life, the D1 so far we know it'll have newer CPU, MSRP should be the same as C1, other details not confirm yet and the ETA should be mid June.

    Thanks.

If they GPU changed, they would change at least the "VP" part... if not the number. This will be a CPU/ODD/HDD change.

By this, do you mean the higher clocked processor? But if you look at it another way, the -B1 had a 'more power efficient' processor. This could be seen as an advantage to some in terms of heat generated and battery life.

Who knows? Just an arguement to put forward.
We might see a lower clocked, but more power efficient processor in the -D1.

Yes, T9400 istead of P8400 or P8600 (I don't remember exactly right now).

That might be true for some people but AFAIK F8Va-C1 was a few hundred dollars more expensive than the -B1 model when they were on sale. This supports my idea of "better specs".

I think small-letter submodels increase in specifications with the letter (A, B, C) (although I couldn't say I'm sure about that). In any case, A, B, C's are the higher-end reseller versions (GenTech, BTOTech, etc.)

On the other hand, "X" models are retailer versions (BestBuy, NewEgg etc), with poorer specs to keep the computers cheap.

Any new news about a N81VP-D1 release? Specs?

I was thinking of buying the N81VP-C1 this week since I thinks its the best 14' laptop for power wise on the market and ASUS. But maybe I should hold off for a bit and see if the D1 is better...?

    Its mid June :p

    i haven't returned my C1;

the Win7 lure isn't that substantial - the stock OS would be Vista Home Premium 32; moving to the 64bit Ultimate platform means purchasing a separate retail license as i don't think one can upgrade from a 32 to a 64 that way.

    any additional improvement in specs...
the P series would conserve more power.
    I hardly think it's likely that there'd be a T9900 in D1; perhaps P9600 or 9700?

still - if they could scrap that stupid Fn key on the lower left.
    Bleedin insane...

They did swap the Ctrl and Fn key in the -vg models right? So I think they should be doing the same with the D1.

I know they don't usually change GPU's with changes in their alphabet submodels, but it would be super awesome if we could see a 4860 in these laptops.

Yeah the Vg has a different layout - I went through Ebay listings as well as the Asus parts store.
    The issue with Asus's store is that at times they don't show the pictures;
and their response is rather slow and after the first email they'll ignore you unless you generate another query using the webform...

And sellers on Ebay treat all "compatible" models the same; meaning they show a list of compatible model #s, and you need to visually inspect the picture, plus ask them to confirm the layout.

I've been told that the Vg uses
04GNCB1KUS14, but essentially this is a compatible keyboard for A8/W3 series too.

So far I've found 2 on Ebay that are promising; will post a new thread if I've successfully bought the correct one.

this really sucks... its been delayed? ? i dont even know a single spec on the d1 and they somehow know its been delayed? WHAT'S BEEN DELAYED? a hunk o trash or the respectable n81vp series? i am really curious. ive been waiting for a good desktop replacement semi portable laptop for a while and i dont want to wait a month or 2, however long it may take, to find out it is just ehh.

im not saying give a full spec run down and spoil thier advertisement fun of screwing with us, but just give us something to nibble on. We have not a single thing to base our thoughts on. we have mostly jumped on the boat of 'a better cpu', but that could be wrong. ive heard it may be a more power efficient lappy or it may be a power house. NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING!

i havnt seen 1 thing on a release either, all we have is a EOL. I have also yet to hear of a d1 at computex which you would think they would have there to show it off. this either means that asus is that far behind on its making that it isnt usable which probably makes up for the delay that gentech said, or they are planning to make a big splash with it after the u80v dies down a little. they dont want to show off every new little bit all at once, that would be stupid.

i just want some news on this.

-i hope it has ddr3 ram + gpu. asus is usualy behind on that stuff on many laptops imo.

What I think sucks is that after 3 months the vp-c1 is not being made anymore and I wanted that one and now I have to wait for the new one to come out. I'm really hoping it's released before June ends.

wait a month get a better processor. i bet the delay is due to window 7 certs. If they release before 26th then some people would freak when the time rolls around. release it on the 26th, save returns and headaches! chill down and wait for the better computer

Yeah C1 suppose to be discontinued but the D1 will be delayed so they put C1 back to production line.

Well I was gonna purchase a C1 the other day from a store here in town, they order from there source (ASUS) I guess there was only 6 left and now nothing! :( This D1 better be better and fixed the flaws with C1.
I guess it is better to wait for the newer model most of the time, hopefully D1 has a nice upgrade... :)
Plz keep sharing news guys! Thanks

couldn't finish the whole Okuributo (reached 7% about 1hr 40mins)

    3. Screen resolution

    4. No Blu-ray drive option

    5. No 64bit OS option

I don't think anyone has an ETA for this laptop. But latest word from GenTech doesn't seem promising. They're taking orders on the C1 again because of a delay with the D1.

i think it would be cool if they had a backlit keyboard that you could switch on n off, fix the "click" buttons because people say they are a little stiff, and then what you stated:

    blue ray option
    higher res option
bat life- just like 30 more minutes i gues
    64 definetly-i hope widows 7

just wondering, how long does the c1 last just using word, for example taking notes in class?

    battery life -
    I was watching Okuributo;
    in Performance mode, used the function key to switch display to the HDTV;
    could finish the whole show.
I think there was at least 15mins remaining before it reached 7%.

HP just started selling T9600 and P8800 versions of the DV4 (well...at least in Taiwan)

N81vp is probably getting an minor upgrade to the T9600 too ?
it would make sense since T9550 and T9600 both have $316 1ku bulk price from Intel.

this completely died... we were on a role in this forum (kind of) with all the EOL stuff but ever since gentech said the c1 is comin back... this sucks

i doubt that this d1 is going to come out any time soon.
imo, asus should just revamp the n81 series compltetly. make a whole new 14inch gaming rig

get the new 32nm chips (quad core would be funny), new ati/nvidia 40nm dx11 gpus, and a new body. hopefully lighter and more bat life. highly doubt

My local computer place and I contacted a manager at ASUS and he said that there should be a release or news about the N81Vp-D1 sometime in mid July. I guess well hopefully see something...
