    As the title says...

Does anyone have any news if Asus will build a G1 Notebook with Quad Core CPU and nVidia 8800M GPU?

That would be awesome don't you think?

    Peace!

haha, that'd be hot, but def too imaginitive. quad core in a 15.4, with a 8800? sigh you know what kind of cooling you would need? good chance of 8800 w/ core2duos but no quads until penryn's come out and better cooling improvements

normal graphic card power outputs: 35W
8800M graphic card power outputs: 44W

    so i heard/read somewhere...
    i think reghardware.net?

IMO that isn't even a practical consideration, not going to happen.

Alienware stuck a desktop P4 into a notebook before, no matter how big you make it. There's is no way in hell you'll cool it enough to function right and guess what, they over heated (and one burned my hand bad). My guess Alienware will release a 15.4" Quad-core SLI 8800M GTX (which will fry eggs), not Asus who traditionally have played it save.

I know it's possible on a 15.4" since Sager, XtremePC and Alienware has that exact setup. They even crammed more than one HDD on them!

So, it's possible... I know on the current Asus G1 chassis will be kind of hard, but a bit thicker notebook would not hurt at all.

I tend to not imagine about the impossible, but rather focus on what I have right now. Even thou Quad cores and the 8800GTX is out, I'm still loving my G1s as much as the day I got it. =]

???? if this ever happens, g1s would melt~~ plus g1s is using a mobile cpu, are there any q-core mobile processors???

Quad core mobile probably won't show up until Nehalem, at least, to gain the benefits of the 45nm process and thermal benefits. Still, it's anyone's guess whether or even when they're on the roadmap and Nehalem doesn't even show up in the consumer desktop realm until q4 '08 at the Extreme level.

The notebooks mentioned above that feature this, are thick, large, bulky, and impractical for an everyday mobile laptop use.

A bit thicker? It'll be VERY thick. Do a search on the Z81sp, it was ASUS's experimental 15.4" 6800 GO Ultra. Note the fastest GPU back then was a 6800 Go, so they pushed the limit, and boy was it an interesting result ;)

The chassis of the Z81sp is similar to the G1, if you want the G1 to be like that...

Quad-core CPU isn't good for laptop due batteries issue, that can drain alot of batteries and possible to increase of heat, that what I got info from my friend.

Same as goes to 7200 RPM HDD too.

Unless nm is low so enough to get fit it.

But I thought Penryn was 45nm... Anyhoo, thanks for your answers...

I think I'll stick with my G1P for a bit longer.

Now... a friend offer me $1500USD for my G1P, I was thinking of upgrading it to a G1S but I don't see that much of a performance increase, or am I wrong?

    Thanks again!

1500 for a G1P? Wow, that's a deal on your part... I'd definitely go for the upgrade to the G1S.

Man this Penryn term is getting totally abused, it's the first time a 45nm die shrink was named. Intel needs to rename their mobile "Penryn" processor something else as this is confusing pretty much everyone. Along with the mobile quad core under the name "Penryn QC".

Not saying that JCMS is wrong here though, he isn't.

Well, we might not need to wait til Nehalem. Mobile "Penryn QC" will be coming Q3 '08, so it'll be exactly a year from now til we first see them in the market. Now for a G1S refresh with a QC processor might not show up to a year and 6 months from now going by ASUS's track record.

Well, I just ordered my G1S-A1 from Newegg.com!

I should have it by next Thursday/Friday! woohoo!

I didn't mind Newegg's no return policy since I pretty sure I'll love it since my last notebook was an Asus G1p :)

Cheers and thanks for your comments!
