I highly doubt it has 1GB of actual VRAM. At most is 512MB physical and the rest shared. I believe Vista automatically partititions system memory for use by the graphics card anyways, so I'm not sure why they even advertise it as a selling point anymore.

In any case, the Go 8600 will certainly not be able to use 1GB of VRAM. In fact, it's doubtful that it can even use 512MB of VRAM. I've debated this in the graphics card section many times, and I still feel that is the case since even a GPU with the power of the desktop 7950GT has been shown to perform virtually identical between 512MB and 256MB versions. The desktop 8600GTS isn't even as powerful as the 7950GT so the Go 8600 (which is likely perform similar to the desktop 8600GT) will be even less so.

You're talking about 128MB chips if you want 1GB physical memory with these cards. That's definitely not the case here. As ltcommander said, most likely 512MB. (Which even in itself is more another number to put on the spec sheet than actually useful.)

Damn, was hoping for a 8600 Go release of the A8S series. With the A8J series, did they release a laptop with 7600 when it just came out, or did they start with the 7400? I'm just hoping they're doing it for marketing reasons or something.

Asus released the first a8jm with a 7600......marketing reasons? Most likely a lack of those...

Yeah, I didn't think so, was just grasping at straws....green fingers? Well whatever, I would ask whether the Go 8600 could work with a 14" laptop, but there's no point, I guess I just have to wait.

Asus has only revealed their low-end A8's. Rest assured that there will be an A8 14.1" laptop that has a Go 8600 in it.

    I'd pay like $1900 for that ...
Just wondering, does anyone know if the 8600 dissipates much more heat than the current 7700? If so then I'd probably have to go with a 15.4in...

He was sarcastic... the person he was responding to was, in his opinion, expecting too much for his money.
