I interpret this as having two Mobility 4870 X2 GPUs.

I wouldn't be surprised to see dual SLI GPUs, but to see 6 speakers on a laptop??? Engadget is also wrong by saying it's the first laptop to have 3 ram slots - the G71 series has that too. :)

and then the spec sheet only shows 2 x 4870 instead of 2 x 4870x2.

No. There is no such thing as an ACTUAL mobility 4870X2 card, it would be gigantic. What they call the 'mobility 4870X2' is 2 separate mobility 4870s running in crossfire.

The terminology is a little confusing but that's what it is.

With the OCZ Whitebook, its either worded as dual 3870's or 3870's in crossfire. "4870 X2" implies that there are two GPU's on a single card or PCB.

Wow, that's awesome. Asus always kept quiet with these sort of things. I really thought Flextronics was going to be the first to sport Dual ATi MR 4870s. Interestingly though, it uses GDDR3 memory (according to the spec sheet)...

If they put DDR2 on dual 4870s I think I'm throwing myself down the bridge. I don't think GDDR4/5 are mobile-able now or if they are they cost $$$$$

I knew this thing looked familiar. AMD has this model (unmarked at the time) at Computex 2008 with the Dual Mobility 3850s:

http://www.techpowerup.com/img/08-06-11/amd1.jpg (this is the 17 inch version as spec sheet specifies that this chassis comes with 17 and 18.4 inch screens)

Is there a release date? I still have a couple of days to cancel my OCZ, just in case. Although, without a QX, I would stick with the OCZ.

I think it has to be only 2 4870s as the GPU memory is only 1GB.
The W90 is also offered in a 17in version.

Around 2500 to 3000, considering their top system (Asus G70-SG) is $2900. But that inflated price is because of the 2 x 4GB Ram in there.

4GB sticks are pricey. I think the last I checked, they were around $300 a piece at the cheapest!

As of today, these are the cheapest I've found. It's definitely cheaper than $300 a piece, but higher performing chips are definitely around the $300 a piece you spoke of.

    This setup comes with X2 4870 !!!

Yes you heard me ... it comes with 2 4870 !!!

It will sure make anyone into gaming laptops start to drool ...

    :D

    http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/asus-debuts-18-4-inch-w90-gaming-laptop-at-ces-2009/

Got an itch for a gaming laptop that's big enough to span the laps of both you and your lover? ASUS has you covered. Here in the desert, the outfit has introduced a potent 18.4-inch gaming rig with a 1080p panel, twin ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 X2 GPUs, three RAM slots (a world's first, mind you) stuffed with 6GB of DDR2 memory, a Core 2 Duo processor, a half dozen (seriously) Altec Lansing speakers and a Turbo Gear function that will enable users to overclock the system and boost performance by as much as 25%. A few more configurations are available, including one with a 17-inch panel, an NVIDIA graphics option, dual HDDs, an optional Blu-ray drive and enough ports to put your average desktop to shame.

Just to be clear, the GPU are 4870s in Crossfire not 4870X2s in Crossfire. If it was the latter, that would really blow me away.

I get 15000 3dmarks on my desktop with a gtx260 core 216 and an E8400 with 4GB RAM. That thing should beat me with two 4870's in it, are those 4870's lesser versions than the desktop version of the 4870?

If the weight doesn't crack your eggs first. Then you would get scrambled eggs, or well, maybe easy over eggs if you remove the heat source quickly enough.

How is every single Asus Notebook flawed? So, your saying that every single notebook that's not an Asus is absolutely perfect?

Reading comprehension problems? Obviously, I didn't say every notebook that isn't an Asus is perfect.

That said Asus has had a lot of quality control problems lately and it seems like they are rushing products onto the market.

    G1S, C90, G50, F3 all have major/minor issues.

Along with that, most Asus notebooks have bad battery life, badly coded software and are rather large relative to similar offerings from other companies.

It is hard to get excited about Asus anymore, and I used to be a huge fan of their hardware. After being on the receiving end of their G1S failure, I am no longer.

Well Gosh golly Gee. I had an excellent time running my G1S. No problems when I installed XP, and no problems when I later re-installed vista, never had to send it out to be serviced, and considered it a pleasure to own and play on. Having experienced no major problems with mine, I feel you are completely off base when you say "flaws that accompany any asus laptop". But you are more than welcome to your own opinion. It just bothers me when someone gets a raw deal and proceedes to diss an entire company. It would be interesting to post a poll and see how many satisfied ASUS owners there are over non-satisfied owners. Only reason I sold my G1s was because I upgraded to their G71V. Love the brand and will always support them

So because you have had no problems, you can make a judgment based off your own experiences, but since my experiences have not been positive, you feel bothered that I am doing the same?

Also do you deny that problems exist with the notebooks I mentioned? Perhaps take a look at all the threads in this forum.

Although I admit maybe my first post was harsh, it is fact that there have been a lot of problems recently.

I find it surprising that you have had no issues with your G1S (assuming you don't mean the G1SN or G1).

Threads in a forum mean nothing. That's what forums like these are for, troubleshooting. I've maybe seen a small handful of people who actually come on forums to only say that they love their new laptop.

Of course there will be major/minor issues. The only major issue that really comes to mind is the rubbish battery life. Minor issues are certainly more numerous but not game-breaking.

Asus quality is actually quite decent compared to what you get in other hardware-value-for-money companies. Toshiba's qosmio and Gateway's 7811s come to mind.

So this laptop will *beat* all other gaming laptops? I didn't know laptops fight each other like that.

Anyways, if the price will stay under 3000$ USD and will score at least 17k on 3DMark06 then I'll be getting it too.
