Says version 601. Don't have my c90 for testing, I'm sure you people can do that.
The link for USA may not work for you, it didn't for me. Use global, it worked.

Nice! I really wish they would include a text document with a description tho. I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a relabeled version of one of the bios Ken has already given us since one of them was indeed in the 700's.
I'll wait for Ken to say what it is before I flash to it. -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Vicious congrats on the baby!!! On another good note I am getting my baby back (my c90). Turns out something was wrong with cooling and my gpu was probably overheating thus the constant crashing when gaming otherwise fine. Ken handled the whole thing, and they are sending me a new c90!! I love gentch! I'll get it next thursday I believe.
-
I come in peace.
What are the supposed benefits to this BIOS? Better compability with CPU's? RAM? Less BSOD's? -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah sorry about other threads Ichigo, no hard feelings. Yeah I agree with vicious they should have a text file saying what they changed so we have no clue until people try it out.
-
Ah that's good. In truth I have a lot to ask you guys still. It's been a PITA finding this thing in Canada. NCIX says they will be available tomorrow, but we'll see. CPU's are horribly overpriced around here. The E6600 costs the same as the Q6600. I'm debating between the E4400 and the E6420. I'm not sure the .13Ghz + 2 extra MB of L2 cache are worth $80CAD. I'm getting Corsair SODIMMS and hopefully they're compatible, even more so with this new BIOS update. Most importantly, I need to know how to properly install all the drivers, since the ASUS link you posted has a dozen different drivers for the C90. I guess I'll ask this all again when my stuff ships, because it seems like I hijacked this thread.
On topic: Someone be our guinea pig for the new BIOS? -
The link on Asus's download site isn't working, In any case I'm going to wait on Ken before I load this
-
Thanks for the info Forerunner - nice to have the link. I won't be able to try it as I'm installing my OS right now. -

JK!
If its Asus approved I wouldn't too be worried about it doing in any harm, worst possible scenario it doesn't change much or anything at all but yeah until Ken tests it or someone else does we just wait I guess. -
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
No problem. If you are updating the bios, let us know how it performs.
-
It's going to take me a while to get everything loaded, but just for fun while I am installing I thought I would take a few temp readings with my Raytek ST One Degree spot meter.
Ambient - 79.5 Degrees F
Pad above HD - 95.5
Right palm rest - 84
Exhaust fan area - 126.5 to 136.5
Later I will do a comprehensive test. -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah looking forward to testing this bios. Just gotta reinstall alot of stuff.
-
Lol i know this is obvious stuff but unistall turbogear and so far no bsod (why didnt i think of it before???) Ill wait for issues to be resolved and then install it back
-
Im going to burn me dvd with it right now
-
Sooo, how do i install the update again?
-
so what kind of fix does this have? it doesnt even have a description or was it in the zip file?
-
I didn't find a text file, only a .ROM
I seem to have figured out how to update. Dang windows only utilities. -
which bios update program is for the c90s? c90 is not listed as a model number for any of their update program.
-
-
You have to download the file from the C90s support page, and the asus flash program. When i flashed the bios, the trackpad stopped working periodically
-
problem is there's 3 different flash program.
-
Asus Update. I Wonder if it changed the ram speed? Time to find out
-
The new bios leave the ram at 233. Dang. I never noticed the fsb was the same as the ram? hmmm. in power saving mode its drops the ram speed to 175
-
well that sucks.
-
Yup. im to tired to look and see whats different right now. Maybe in the morning...
-
does the overclock mode work properly now?
-
more importantly does battery mode (turbogear installed) works
-
Looking forward to hearing from you guys on this. I'm getting really annoyed with the battery issue. Restarting every time I unplug my comp from the wall is a pain in the ass.
-
Ken, I'll try what you suggested. Keep you updated! (ps - inbox full)
-
well ill try the new bios (and i believe some of those are new drivers???) on sunday ill post then if nobody else have posted anything yet
-
I cant really comment of the overclock and battery issues, as i never had any at all. Anything else i could look at?

Ahh Cancer uninstalling turbo gear fixed your no boot with battery issue?? I may be able to use 3gb of ram yet then, I guess it defaults to nomral mode instead of power save mode right? (which means the already horribly short battery life will be even shorter tho :/)
-
rode it all the way till the battery die out with no bsod (even played stalker on medium low settings) battery was cut to 58 minutes though.
tonight ill test on power saver mode and see if theres any difference... -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
High performance mode gave you 58 minutes?!?!?
-
Thats good news. And thats a good idea about uninstalling turbogear to fix the bsod problems. Thanks for the advice
ps. My C90s cleared customs this morning, i'll have it Monday! -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Ahh not the same problem as me, I thought it was a freeze in power save like I get when on battery power if I use a 2gb sodimm. The new bios may fix the compatability issues I have no idea. I dont have my notebook to try tho.
-
Im on bios 704 btw.... i cant boot on battery in any other bios (havent tested 601).
Forerunner... not sure if you ment it as too low or too high... everything was on, full brigthness, wireless, BT, high performance mode, and i was just browsing, turning my camera on/off, FP reader too an i was using a usb mouse. -
quick question whats tpm driver for??
also whats with all those wireless drivers... im sticking with the intel ones since they are working fine in any mode even if i plug and unplug -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Seemed kinda high.

Update from me, installed a 1*1gb stick of Transcend memory, bringing the total to 1*2gb and 1 *1gb. Still running strong. =)
Of course I haven't tried Turbo Gear yet. -
Sorry guys, BIOS 601 is older version than 704, 6 stands for June and 01 stands for first BIOS of the month, so BIOS 704 is the fourth beta BIOS of July.
The reason they don't post 704 on their website is because it's still a beta.
They are still working on the new version. -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Ah thanks for clarifying that Ken.
-
Thanks for the info. I really hope they are working hard on getting the known issues (are they known to them?) resolved asap.
-
ASUS dont advise to use BIOS 704. They said some of the crash due to turbogear may due to 3 factors:
1.- VIdeo driver not compatible (Im using the hybrid version)
2.- Using unofficial release of the bios (using 704)
3.- Using not fully compatible memory (2 x 1gb corsair memory)
Otherwise, my c90s works fine on battery or plugged. I can reboot in xp or linux (I have dual system on my mine) work, navigate, and still runs more than an hour in safe battery mode. I can switched to standard and back even on battery mode and works fine in XP enviromnt but as soon I hit the game mode, still wroking until I hit any game I have to play or any video on my c90s. Therefore I guess could be more the 1st factor than any other. The only strange thing is that the latest turbogear software doesnt seem to speed up my cpu as the 1st release but just turn the fans on (no matter how low are the temperatures)
regards,
RG -
I hate to put them out on this but I think Asus is lying to us. I think there is a more serious problem with the C90 and they are just making up excuses. Thats how I feel about it. Nothing about these problems is consistent. People using the same exact memory as people with working systems but theirs wont work. some batteries working som not. This is the first ive heard of video drivers causing the problem. Also, how often does a company allow BETA bioses to go public. Not just one either but 2. Then take longer than a month to release an official one. It doesnt fit. Especially considering the 30+ things I tried with my first c90s that locked up when going in game mode. If you do a search for my name you can find those thinsg I tried. Long story short though, when I put a fan under the bottom of the laptop I could do all but catch the unit on fire and it ran FINE in gaming mode or otherwise. I RMAed my laptop and instantly I was able to run perfectly fine with ALL the memory, drivers, software, hard drives, whate-have-you that I tried on my non working unit. I refuse to believe there will be a bios that will fix everyones problems. Prove me wrong, Asus.
