The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

I'm going to set about 3 new sticky's and remove the rest.

    1. all user reviews will be lumped into one thread.

    2. new information on Asus models (new and old) -- specs, prices, availability, pictures... (ANYONE with information, contact me and I'll update the post giving credit where credit is due)

    3. A "lastest from proportable" - rather use that as a random thread for keeping people up on stock numbers, answering questions here that I revolve around ever changing issues like changing eta's, policies and so forth. This will serve as one place to read updates and see the progression of changing information.

Finally, all of these threads will be locked. This will keep out the junk and serve as an easy place to come and get information so we're not flooding the forum with the same questions day after day...

Any user wanting to add a page reviewing their notebook, please contact me.....for now I will be taking the few user reviews here and adding them to one page. Also, anyone who finds helpful information in past threads and think it's worthy of going into one of these threads above, just drop me a line. I'm going to need help getting all of these together.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Underpantman, am i reading this correctly. You have given Proportable the power to moderate this forum. Please let me know if I am understanding this wrong.

no. there are a lot of overseas participants here that Justin helps out that will never be buying from PROPortable. As an individual I would recommend PROPortable as a place to buy an Asus product if in the U.S., but people are of course free to shop around and find better deals or somewhere they feel provides better support -- which in a free market they will of course do. Furthermore, any other Asus product reseller is free to post here and certainly would not be censored, but rather encouraged if they can provide helpful information.<hr height='1' noshade id='quote'></font id='quote'></blockquote id='quote'>

To NO discredit of Justin or Proportable, I think the point capvermell was trying to make is that by giving moderator powers to a known poster who is a reseller, you are creating a potential conflict of interest in keeping this an open forum for all views/opinions, barring those that are vulgar in nature of course. The conflict being a "pro-[insert reseller's name]" spin could be allowed to present itself via selective "moderation" of posts which may cast the reseller in a negative light. I'm not saying Justin/Proportable would do this, just saying that this type of situation has been created.

EDIT: Bah, my bold font didn't work. [:(]

hi all, just to clear things up, Justin was made a moderator because of somebody that was posting extremely offensive material in the Asus forum (it wasn't capvermell but somebody else), the offensive comments were mostly towards Justin, but others too (such as underpantman the other moderator in the forum). It's really a function of the limitation of this forum that I couldn't do much else but make Justin a moderator to allow him to delete such posts, he helps out a lot here and is online a lot. We're upgrading the bulletin boards soon and I'll have more control over who can/can't delete posts (via privileged usergroups) and we'll have a rating system and warning system for offensive posts. At that time we'll reconsider whether it makes sense to have Justin as a full fledged moderator or not, until then this does make sense for us as it's our best option and we appreciate the work he does.

re: "Now the whole Asus forum will merely be turned into a selling shop for ProPortable's services"

no. there are a lot of overseas participants here that Justin helps out that will never be buying from PROPortable. As an individual I would recommend PROPortable as a place to buy an Asus product if in the U.S., but people are of course free to shop around and find better deals or somewhere they feel provides better support -- which in a free market they will of course do. Furthermore, any other Asus product reseller is free to post here and certainly would not be censored, but rather encouraged if they can provide helpful information.

Re: In view of his murdering of other people's forum posts by stealth I wonder if his real name is Justin or is in fact possibly Jason???!!!! Beware the guy with the mask is all I can say.

this isn't constructive talk [V], let's not make it personal.

Thank you Gooter. That is precisely the concern that I had in mind.

And do bear in mind that just because I said some things he didn't like that Justin is now threatening to have me removed as a member of the whole Notebook Review forum. Although fortunately this is not his decision to take.

And since I do not have a static IP address and since IP addresses are not in any case logged by the forum I don't see how this could in practice be enforced. Of course I suppose my capvermell ID could be closed down and I would then have to start with a new ID every time I wanted to post in the forum.

I am sure that these are not the kind of games that the two Andrews want to play with their contributors but I have a terrible feeling it is the sort of game that Justin may very well enjoy quite a lot.

I'm not wrong on this matter. Your problem was your problem and no one elses back when you had it. You wouldn't prove it then and come in here now just to tell me I changed my mind, which if you were following, isn't true either.

This has nothing to do with why your posts were removed and I was already justified in doing so....... do ahead and make a post saying the M5 will cause cancer and I'll leave it. But you're not a friend of mine and not a customer of my company, nor a citizen of our country. So don't mention me, my company, and when you talk about your old notebook, make sure people know you're talking about a previous model (M5n and not M5np) and (a UK model, not a US model). Do that and you can post that your notebook stole your lunch money and beat up dog for all I care....

I'm not going to delete posts of colleagues who also take the time to help out in this forum......... I'm not about to bash any other company..... I'm not about to delete any post talking bad about an Asus notebook either...... but if someone disagrees with you and you're out there by yourself making a claim..... bring proof to back it up. There is only one reason you would continue to hang out in this forum (granted you had a computer you hated for 8 months and now don't own an Asus at all) ..... and that is to continue to bring the forum down with posts like these. You're not being helpful, and making me like I'm some sort of forum nazi which I am far from.

    Thanks,
    Justin

can someone delete the non topic related stuff out of this sticky, it kinda defeats the purpose of a news sticky.

There is no point of a deal. However, my original sticky really only needed to be in place for a day or two and this thread points to exactly one of the reasons I am changing the sticky's to make this place more efficient. If an entire thread is dedicated to something like this, it will be deleted on site. If posts in the future start to take over a good thread, they will be deleted and forgotten about.

    Thanks,
    Justin

I went out of my way to post as politely as possible that this bull is off topic and pointless, and kept out of the bickering since it will go nowhere. And you had to go out of your way to attack me..... Im going to take the high road here since I dont see any point in startng the bs up again, but you just reinforced my opinion of you as, well im sure you can figure it out.

For the record, never met or done business or anything with Justin or Proportable, but applaud him for his work helping people on this forum. (BTW, if youd have searched my posts, you would see I own a Fujitsu, and normally post in the hardware and fujitsu forum, not here)

And I still think this sticky should be cleaned up so its user firendly....
