I have a client who has an urgent need for a 17" plus laptop that's IN STOCK, I5/I7, and has Win7 Ultimate loaded. He's found an ASUS NX90JQ-B1 in stock locally. It's far, far more than he needs on the audio/video front, but hey, he has the money and needs the screen size.
Ringers....
1. He MUST have an encrypted HD. Anyone here actually OWN one of these elegant beasts? Anyone ever BitLockered C:? I noted a Macrovision copyright in the manual and shuddered. They fiddle with the MBR. Anyone know why Macrovision CP is needed? For the Bluray?
2. Advice on just how hot a 740 quadcore runs would also be appreciated. The machine will NEVER travel, and never sit on a lap. He just is worried about his desktop catching fire (g).

BitLocker is only available to Windows 7/Windows Vista Ultimate and Enterprise versions. AFAIK, all the NX90 models only come with Windows 7 Home Premium. Also keep in mind that the NX90 series don't have TPM so you won't be able to use some of the authentication mechanisms even if you have an Ultimate or Enterprise OS.
On the bright side, there are many various third party disk encryption software you can use that may fulfill your client's security requirements. -

I guess I'll fight this battle if/when it appears at my doorstep. TPM isn't a requirement.
