Hello
Just wanted to let everyone know that we will be undergoing a name change. The current geared2play to btotech.com
g2p will still be our domain for another 10 paid years however it will no longer be indexed by any search engines and i will not use it anymore. In the next few weeks the site will be completely refaced and all mentions of geared2play will be removed other then legal notices and warranty. In case anyone was wondering what btotech stands for (built to order technology). Now geared2play.com will still be an active url which forwards to btotech.com until 2015. After 2015 we will not renew.

Just out of curiosity... any specific reasons why you can divulge? Seems you've built quite a good name with the G2P brand and is well known...

G2P does sound 'hipper' but as a parent, would you buy something from 'Geared2Play' or 'Built to Order Technologies' for your college kid?

btotech is just more pro and easier to remember also easier to pronounce. Trying to stay away from the college dudes and get closer to the business and pro to be honest. I think the name change will help with that. Nothing against college dudes but it just so happens that they make up about a third of our customers while over 90% of our rma are from the same college dudes. Personally I rather see in increase in business clients and a steady following of college peeps.

personally i think g2p is alot easier to say in conversation, but i see your point about btotech being more classy and aimed at a more serious crowd

gtotech would pretty funny ..
Geared to order tech.....
but yeah hopefully pros and buisness guys will treat their notebooks better than college dudes... -
My opinion....and I am not college kid...btotech sounds way too boring. How many hundreds of "blah- blah-tech" are out there. It gives me the thought of some little mom/pop computer shop at the back of some strip mall.
Geared2Play sounds elite, professional and clean. And its easy to remember.
That's just my two cents. -
While I am note a college student, I may as well fit in that category.
I am a highschool student. Will not be going to college for multiple years.
First off, the name G2P had no effect on my purchase from them whatsoever. I bought my Z96 from G2P because of their warranty policies, because of what they offered, and because Eddie is the man. The name might as well have been horrendouslybadcomputers.com and I still would have ordered from them.
Business users may treat their notebooks better than a college student... but I feel I treat my notebook far better than just about any business/pro user. I've seen far too many people do far too stupid things with their laptops.
I doubt many businesses will buy computers from a small custom shop. I could see possibly small businesses doing such a thing, but I haven't seen many business users carry anything other than the major-brand notebooks.
I would suggest making it clear on your BTOTech site that you were formerly known as G2P.
Just my thoughts on the situation. =)
Pay no attention to the 15 year old behind the computer monitor. -
It doesn't matter, everyone around here is still going to call it geared2play
But I definitly understand the reasoning, see how the name goes because if you get more business, thats always a plus. Cause quite frankly, your always going to get the college dudes. And you know what, if you don't like the name after awhile, you could always go back to geared2play.
Smart move i think. -
I got used with g2p .. i think alot users are too .. it will be hard to change it but i will get used to it.

The real shame is the fact you just hit 2000 posts and you have to start a new account with BTOTech.com In either case, I think you deserve the TOTD.. Topic Of The Day!!
