Hi, I have checked the sticky, and I could not find the definition of native resolutions. So, I was wondering what is it? And for the G1, what are/is its native resolutions(s)? Thanks.

G1 has 15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) LCD with Quickest Response Time LCD, Color Shine (Glare Type).

Also, to those who own the G1 (lucky you), how sturdy is its plastic case?

    Thanks!

Native resolution is the resolution the screen is made for...... a screen can't display a higher res than it was made for... but it can display a lower one. However..... The G1 has a WSXGA+ screen..... you could display it at WXGA..... however, a native WXGA screen would look BETTER than the higher res screen lowered to that level.

Not many people actually own them yet, but I can tell you my opinion is the case is above average...... "mainstream" as an Asus, compared to their better ones, but it's not bad... The W1 was by far the best built 15.4" I've ever seen, so I'm setting the standards pretty high - understand that. It's a good unit.

Alright thanks. One more follow up question. Is it true that playing games on any widescreen LCD not at its native resolution will lower performance, as in, lower fps...UNLESS, it is a perfect scaling (ie 1600x1200 to 800x600)??

If so, if I play a game at WXGA, not only it will look worst but will be slower compare to a native WXGA (assuming both notebooks only differ by its LCD), is it true? Thanks.

I've personaly been trying to prove that theory wrong, I have heard this many times, from my experience using laptops, I don't think this is true at all.
Infact LCDs should operate almost equivalently to CRTs when scaling, however LCD performance also contributes to this factor.

Here's a link to my LG S1 review where i look at scaling of the LCD.

It's always good to play games at their native res, yes.... but in a game, regardless of what it's made for... you either have the slightly lower quality of the screen you get by lowering the res...... or you have the slightly lower quality of the game by interpolating up the res of the game.....

Not life or death either way.

Wow, thanks. I agree. There are much more vital factors than native resolutions affecting performances. Thanks.
