My temps overall seem fairly normal, except for my northbridge temp. When playing BC2 I usually overclock my T9900 to 3.4ghz with SetFSB. I know by doing this I can increasing the FSB and that raises my temps a bit.

CPU temp maxes around 78-80C - which is fine for me with the OC
GPU maxes from 83-94C depending on day and whether or not I'm using AA

But my THRM rises well above what looks normal from other posts, and much higher than what it did when I first bought the laptop. Now my temps hit a max of 89-95C when gaming. At idle all temps are good.

    Idle
    GPU 48-50C
    CPU 38C
    THRM 46C

I replaced my pastes with Shin-Etsu on both the CPU, GPU, and chipset. My chipset temps worked at first, but then slowly over time crept back up to 90C+ temps. Now I have a 1mm thermal pad on the chipset, again worked at first (meaning lower temps max 80C-ish) but then slowly they crept up again to around 90C in games.

I threw out that purple pad that was originally on there, and I don't remember if Asus used a thermal pad and paste? I am just asking if anyone will let me know what exactly Asus used on the chipset to help keep it cool. Should I get a thicker or thinner pad? Use a pad and paste? I haven't expereinced any crashing or downclocking. Really the opposite, and the laptop rocks during games. I just don't think that it will last very long if I am hitting these high temps, and then cooling, and then hitting them again.

I thought of a few more questions..

What is that gold plastic covering over the chipset? Is that needed or should I removed it? Does that stock Asus purple thermal pad cover not only the chipset, but also over that entire plastic covering? I can't remember.

Thanks guys, would really appreciate some feedback.

Anyone? I know a lot of people have jumped the G51 ship to the G73. Somebody with a G51 has to know what the chipset looks like with the stock thermal pad. Can someone post some detailed pics of their chipset thermal pad next time they crack their G51 open for some routine maintenance.
