Hey guys, I got my Asus G50V-A1 a couple months ago and i love it, but i started to have some problems. My computer is runing really slow even though i dont have many programs installed. Now i never installed Anti-virus program so maybe i have virus' and spyware and such. I need help reformating it in the hopes of eliminating this massive slow down. Should i use the Recovery DVD's? or System Restore? Also i read in the manual that if you have a dual HD that before using the recovery DVD's you should remove one of the HD's....Anyways anyone have any thoughts on what i should do?

You could look at the ASUSFAQ on the Info Booth, question #14. I do not know how things work in 2-HDD computers, so I cannot give any insight about the suggestion in the manual.

I suggest trying to get a clean install if possible, using the trick in that question #14. Then install the drivers, firewall, antivirus etc. Install only the ASUS utilities that you need, not all of them. Do install all the ATK utils, though.

Hopefully this still helps you, it's been one week now...

It is better to take out the second HDD before you use the image dvds.
Assuming you actually have stuff saved on it. Obviously if not then you don't have to worry.
A good idea is to copy your documents photos etc to the other hard drive before taking it out. That way you can be sure that you're not going to lose your information.

About recovery DVDs / restore partition

Don't forget to back up your email to the other drive if you use outlook express or outlook or some other locally installed client.

Use a proper (good philips) screwdriver to take out the screws so you don't blur the tops.

    Good luck.

The recovery process should provide an option to just install on the first available partition ("Recover to 1st partition only") which should keep the data on the other partitions safe.

But I agree, you can never be too careful about your data. So take all the precautions you feel are necessary. Also it is unclear how the recovery process would affect the 2nd HDD so it's probably best to remove it (or disable it in the BIOS, which should have the same effect).
