    i have a asus g1. running at 2.00ghz vista ultimate 32bit.

my problem is when i run power4gear extreme or windows power plan it always run at max speed.

example i run high performace it goes 2.00ghz idle also run 2.00ghz. or battery saver running 997mhz idle also run 997mhz.

i have no problem with power option or laptop, just that keeps running full ghz/mhz what should i do?

    thank you very much :p

Try update your BIOS with a newer version from Asus and see if that helps.

I would try reinstall P4G and maybe even rolling back to v.208.

Might be a BIOS option to enable/disable Speedstep, or whatever it is called these days. But if this is a recent issue, I'd guess it is some process/program that is always using a lot of CPU power.

id have to go with a program as well. if it can go down to 997, then speedstep is working as it should, but something is keeping the cpu usage > 50%

Go to control panel > power options > change plan settings (for whatever plan you want to change > change advanced power settings > Processor power management

There you can choose the minimum and maximum processor speeds for any power plan while plugged in or on battery. I have mine set at 100% minimum in performance mode when plugged in. Usually I leave it on Battery Saving unless I am gaming.

    I don't think so.

Try updating or reinstalling the ATK (ACPI) drivers. Or if they are not installed, then do install them! :)

Also are you sure that there is no "rogue" process taking a lot of CPU, as suggested above?

Are you using any non-OS power management software (Power4Gear, RM Clock). If yes you could try running without it.

If not you may consider RmClock since it offers better and more extensive control over the CPU frequency. The disadvantage is that it's not always compatible with new laptops.
