For the past LONG while, when I had both an Inspiron and Gateway laptop in the past, I used a Spire PacificBreeze fan system to help keep things cool. It worked great, as each one of those laptops had bottom air intakes to gather the air blowing underneath the laptop from the PacificBreeze.

Unfortunately, it seems the new Asus I have listed below has NO bottom air intakes, making the PacificBreeze pretty much useless. On top of that, the poor thing is starting to sputter a lot and seems to be on the verge of dying. It's served me well with the previous two laptops, but this new laptop seems to need something else. Does anyone know what kind of external cooling system I can use with this laptop that works well, sort of how the PacificBreeze did for me with the previous laptops? Something cheap would be nice, but I can spend more if needed.

you'd be looking at a cooling pad like the Zalman NC2000.

Seems like a nice pad, but reading seems to suggest is does the same thing the PacificBreeze does by bringing air through the underside. Even if this laptop has no intake on the bottom, will a pad like this one still keep it cool enough?

Why would you say it has no intake on the bottom? I see quite a few intake holes on the bottom.

I didn't seem to notice any when I checked. I thought at first the big circular depression was an intake, but all the little holes in it are sealed. I couldn't seem to find anything else that looked like an intake, the rest were just hole that didn't seem to be designed to take in air like the older laptops I had (those had dedicated opening with fans sucking air into the laptop, which made sense when combined with my PacificBreeze).

I'm not sitting in front of it right now, but if you can point out where they should be, I can double check when I do get back in front of it.

all of those holes==intake. they intake air and pull it over all of the components. by using a cooling pad you push cool air into those intake vents.

I see. I just thought that they weren't working as intake because even with the PacificBreeze on, temperatures didn't seem to change. Perhaps, as I mentioned, it's just because it's on its last legs of living.

So, with that in mind, perhaps pretty much any properly sized cooling pad could help. Perhaps I'll research into the one you mentioned first.

the NC2000 is the one most commonly used with the G51
