So I've discussed this in several places including the 'what notebook should i buy?' forum of these forums.
I require the performance mostly for gaming and I am pretty much confused between the GL502VS and GL702VS as the G752VS is far more heavy and would have to be a lot better in comparison to the other two. Same goes for the ACER predator 17 G9-793 which I was also considering in my initial list. Just mentioning those in case there is indeed something better about them compared to the GL502VS and GL702VS.
And no, I do not have any other choices such as online order or companies that do not supply laptops for retail around the world. Exception being Alienware which I can't find either.
Anyway, I will elaborate on the points that are causing me confusion:
- Weight: The sheer weight of the G752VS pretty much pushes it to the side. Other than that, there is only a difference of approx. 300 g between the GL702VS and the GL502VS. Would it be a noticeable difference while carrying around the laptop?
- Maintenance: I don't buy often so the ability to easily maintain is a must for long life of the laptop. Another point against G752VS. Complete disassembly required in it's case. One review said that the G702VS is very easy to maintain.
- Temps/Throttling/Overclocking: No idea what is the consensus on this so this is the biggest point of contention. Everybody says one thing in favor of one or the other. Let's settle which one offers best performance and has least impact on lifespan, at least of the current iterations of these machines available on the market.

Hey Sidg666,
Before I go to share my experiences with the GL502VS, please allow me to specify that these are my experiences and I by no means claim to be an authority on these ASUS laptops.
Stock Boost Curve : I hit 82-86 on GPU and 85-91 CPU with no modifications to volt.
Anyone who has owned this laptop will tell you it is LOUD as a jet to maintain workable non-throttled performance.. I got a 5400 in TimeSPY
I did some tweaking and came across something quite interesting
I obviously applied the -.125 UV in XTU for the 6700 (no brainer) and also flashed a custom ME for OC so I run the FSB at 102. This helped my CPU temp drop 10 degrees flat. (I am ok with 80-83 stressed on CPU).
For the GPU (I was surprised how hot this was...) I tried OCing to UV at 1700 mhz at .875 V, and then at .900 volt and found better temps and TimeSPY performance didn't really change. Weird right?
I figured, I would go the other way base clock of 11xx with a boost of 1449 and scored a 5000 in TimeSpy and my average power use was .625 to .750 V.
These cards are extremely efficient and with a score like that and the fact that my laptop has a gentle whir instead of a jet turbine sound.... It is a good compromise.
World of Warcaft (sub 40 db, sub 70C on GPU sub 78C on CPU) on GL502VS I have all things turned up EXCEPT Shadows are one click down, SSAO is one click down, View Distance is 7. DSR in NVidia Control Panel is 4.00x and 55% smoothness. 45-60 Frames in Dal and 90-150 Frames in M+ and most raid scenes. (Raids can dip to 50s when **** hits the fan)
Doom 4 is written so damn well.... 120-150 on Ultra+ with the same DSR settings on OpenGL 4.5 and 130-160 on Ultra+ with Vulkan (GPU at 76C and CPU at 82C)
GL702VS is a bit better stock with temps but not much.
I purchased my GL502VS for $1,080 when they were retailing for $1,700 which was the PRIMARY reason for purchase.
Now that I have had this system a while, I feel that I made a good choice.sidg666 likes this. -
Though I did have trouble understanding the acronyms/strings of letters in the underlined part. Do you think you could explain that part a bit better? -
Undervolt the Intel i7 6700.
Intel extreme tuning utility allows you to reduce voltage to the processor. Range is typically -.08 to -.180.
The other part is much more technical. You can flash the ME region of the laptop using an unlocked BIOS to flash. There is an Intel imaging tool software that can add "ICC profiles" which is what Intel extreme tuning utility uses to allow you modify the bclk/fsb value between 99.5 and 170 or like 300 something. I used the standard over clocking profile which allows you up to 170 MHz.
If you are interested in learning how to add ICC profiles, there is a guide on voltground.com, an enthusiast site with a fair amount of Asus owners on it.
Either way you can apply the under volt without modifying any of that and just installing the Intel extreme tuning utility.sidg666 likes this.
