I have an asus k53 series laptop. I cracked the lcd so I ordered a replacement from laptopscreens.com HOWEVER it was not a direct replacement. I found a slightly different asus laptop with the same screen specs (size, led, 40 pin, connector location) except for a 1080p resolution. After installing the screen and turning on the computer it looked like the connector wasn't on right (weird tint, etc). So I took the laptop apart again but this time I decided to test the screen before reassembly so to not have to tear it down again if it wasn't right. When I turned the computer on it still wasn't right (different tint this time) so I jiggled the connector GENTLY and after about 10 seconds of this the backlight died. Here is what I have done so far to diagnose the issue:
- Tried old screen, backlight not working (it was working before I took it out) leading me to think it was a problem with the cable or the motherboard
- Made sure it wasn't an issue with the lid switch. It works correctly.
- Confirmed both old and new screens working, I can see my desktop when using a flashlight. Just no back light. Also made sure windows was reading the new screen at its native rez.. all good.
- Tried to find a blown fuse on the motherboard around where the lcd ribbon connects. No luck, only found one fuse in the area and it passed continuity.
- found 4 other fuses in different areas of the board and all working.
- found what I think is a fuse that wont pass continuity located near the DC jack.
So my issue is basically the same as this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-inspiron-dell-studio/478489-inspiron-1545-led-screen-no-backlight-5.html
I just can't seem to find the right component, maybe there isn't a fuse and I fried something else??
Here is the connector area

same area

Closer. The component circled in red passed continuity and and no resistance so I'm assuming this is a fuse but is not blown.

opposite side in the same area, looks like its mainly the transformer area for the cpu.

Here is what didn't pass continuity, I forget what the ohms were.

Hi Phoriver.....I have been struggling with the same issue as you! Identicle motherboard and near identicle circumstances with no backlight as result. Have done all same checks and same results (all this before reading your post. I too became suspicious of the component in between the power plug and network plug as identified in your last picture as it does look like a fuse and has no continuity.
Have you managed to move on from here at all? If so would really appeciate any update as I'm getting so weary of seaching the net trying to find where the problem lies!
Many Thanks
