OK I have been building computers for over ten years...this is the first laptop I am trying to build. Anyway I have everything installed except for the hard drive.

The hard drive I got is a Seagate 7200 100GB Momentus drive.
It almost goes all the way in then stops.

I noticed that the connector on the end of the hard drive is different from the connector in the notebook.

Was I not given a part I am suppose to get?

It would be nice if they sent instructions but there are none.

Thanks for any help you can give...

lol you are totally in trouble when connectors stop fitting...

i know this sounds stupid, but get a flashlight or whatever and look at the hard drive connector and the laptop. any possibility you are putting it in upside down? i dont really know im just brain storming here.

    Hello and welcome.

What model is the hd? Cause there are two models

    ST910021A Momentus 7200.1 100 GB Ultra ATA/100
ST910021AS Momentus 7200.1 100 GB SATA 1.5Gb/s (you need to get this one.)

Nope it is going in the right way.
There is a drive bay sort of that you connect it to first which makes it pretty impossible of installing it the wrong way.

I know the connectors are different too. What I don't understand is this hard drive is one of the hard drives that are sold by some of the companys that build the laptops for you so it should fit.

They will likely charge a restocking fee of 15%-20%.

    hey mike,
i did the exact same mistake. my hard drive had arrived last week, but my notebook came in only yesterday. after spending hours putting everything together, and finally coming down to put the hard drive in, I found that it wouldn't fit. to my utter disappointment i then found out about SATA drives for notebooks for the first time in my life....

.....ah i should've come to this forum waaaaaaaay before :p

Yeah the funny thing is I spent about a month deciding which notebook to get the S96J or the Z96J and I was on this site a lot looking at them, it never dawned on me to make sure I bought a SATA drive for it.

Cool, what you like having a 2.5" external hd is that you dont have to carry any AC adapter, all USB powered.
