I want to completely get rid of the click ont he track pad to make a left mouse click. I brush against it way too much and it ruins what I type over and over again. I downloaded the synaptics drivers but I see no option for that.

    Any ideas?

what type (brand) of touchpad are you using? If you're using an Elan touchpad, there's a setting in your mouse options called PalmTracking Setting. This is where you can set your touchpad's sensitivity to prevent accidental contact while typing.

If you simply want to disable the touchpad altogether, you can also do so by pressing Fn + F9.

Yea, disabling it helps but there are times I need it. I dont see an option for palm tracking. I also dont know how to tell which type of trackpad I am using.

If you go to the Mouse Options under Control Panel, the hardware tab should tell you what touchpad you are using.

Rather than just disabling tap-to-click altogether, you could also try freeware utility Touchfreeze:
    http://touchfreeze.googlecode.com/files/TouchFreeze-1.0.2.msi

Touchfreeze will "freeze" the touchpad whenever it detects that you are typing so that you cannot accidentally register a click in the middle of typing.
