After reading alot about heat issues with MSI led me to check out the Asus laptops...

Found some good deals at B&H online store...

    ASUS Republic of Gamers G750JW-DH71 17.3" G750JW-NH71 B&H

    ASUS Republic of Gamers G750JW-DB71 17.3" G750JW-DB71 B&H

    ASUS Republic of Gamers G750JM-DS71 17.3" G750JM-DS71 B&H

The top 2 appear to be 2013 models while the 3rd is 2014...Other than the GPU (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M vs NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M), and Windows 8 vs 8.1, and the top having a 750GB 7200 rpm HD instead of a 1TB 5400 rpm HD - are these laptops pretty much the same, or have there been any changes/modifications that a newbie like me might be unaware of?

I'm leaning towards the 2014 edition with the Nvidia 860M, but the Asus at the top of the list seems like a good deal at $1169.99...

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Definitely go with the 860m, it's about 30 percent faster than the 765m.

Yeah - I'm thinking that's my best bet for the $$$.....Even better if I go thru New Egg since I can get up to 12 months of free financing.

Yeah the 860m gives you the best bang for the buck by far there.

Just placed an order with New Egg...Didn't get any additional warranty...Hope it won't bite me in the later on.

They're pretty reliable machines, for what it's worth (and no, other than said differences, all three models listed are pretty much the same).
