Ive waited, and now that that Sandy Bridge is going to be shipping soon i need to make a decision. All advice is welcomed and appreciated.

Looking to spend $700-900 (I live in the US)

    Want the new processor

    15-16in

500gb would be nice but ill settle for 320

Able to play some games (fallout NV, Starcraft II would be nice)

    Good resolution.

I'm a college student so it needs to be somewhat portable.

I would like to see it in person before buying, but will probably use amazon or newegg.

Also, how can i tell if a computer has the new SB processor or not?

    Thank you for your help.

The new second generation core chips have 4 digit names (i5-2500) while the older chips have 3 digits (i5-750).

Since Intel could only produce so many chips at a time when the new chips launched, they started with the more expensive quad-cores. Now they are just releasing the 2nd batch of chips which are cheaper dual-cores.

Based on your budget, you are probably looking for some of the cheaper chips. Laptops based on these chips are just coming out now, many more systems will be announced in the next month or two.

Newegg actually doesn't have any Asus Second Gen Core laptops back in stock yet but here is a site that has a few of them for preorder.

It's still going to be some time -- maybe a month or so -- before these units start showing up for actual sale (and not presale).

I'd say look after Computex (end of May?)
That's when most of Asus' 2011 line will all be announced
