Hi everyone, I just got my Asus S96J and I installed all the hardware and stuff myself, but now I'm having a little software problem.

What do I have to use as the 'proper boot media'? I tried just sticking my windows cd into the CD-Rom, but it didn't work. Any help would be very much appreciated.

ok. so i figured out the reason why it didnt work is because the cd rom drive keeps slipping out of place. is there any way i can fix this? i hear it is a common problem with the S96J...

perhaps you should call your reseller to see if they can find a solution for your problem...

Where did you hear it is a common problem? Did you buy the notebook with the optical drive installed? If you did not there is nothing securing the drive to the notebook. It still should not slip out though, mine does not come out even if I shake Notebook. I recommend that you push drive in further if you istalled optical drive yourself. If you did not install yourself you should call your reseller, they did not install brackets and screws.

My cddrive doesn't have any brackets/screws. It only slips out if you yank on the tray while ejecting a CD. Make sure that the drive is firmly pushed in. You have to apply some pressure.

Well, applying a little pressure took care of that problem... if only all of life's problems were so simple...
