Hi,
As I've indicated in previous posts I'm having continuing problems with my Asus z70va notebook display freezing up. One of the problems I suspect may be a loose connector to the lcd and motherboard. I've managed to take it partially apart for memory upgrades etc but there are a few really puzzling aspects of this notebook which prevent me from getting further in. For a variety of reasons I can't wait to send them in. Someone helpfully posted up a guide before but it doesn't really go over these particular issues.
1. When I take off the keyboard there is a black plate with holes in it on the upper left hand corner which I assume covers the pci slot. On the generic guide all you need to do is unscrew one thing and slide it off but here, I can't get it to budge at all.
2. There are two screw pads on the back side of the lower nonlcd part of the notebook facing away from you when you open the cover...hiding screws I need to get to so I can remove the lcd. I haven't found a way to remove them as they are hard rubber unlike the pads on the front of the lcd and seem to be stuck fast to there.
If anybody has any experience with these issues can you chime in with some advice on how to remove these things and general precautions?
thanks.

That plate is hard, I recall taking it off for the Wireless card. Your best bet is to ask a dealer for a image guide walkthrough.
Asking your dealer for more info would be a good idea if you haven't already. -
Here is the disassembly guide:

Right. I think I know your problem I had with the M6 as well.
If I remember correctly, you need to remove the keyboard cover lining it to the top and half of left and right. You need to use the tweezers but they're hard to pull, and you might make some small scratches in the process... I'll try to make a small picture on how to pull on the covers in a few minutes.'
In words: the cover that you need to remove is along the top half of the keyboard, so it goes from half of the side, around the top, and returns to the other side until half. You need to insert the tweezers _under_ the cover, right near the connection with the lower keyboard cover which lines the bottom and the lower halves of the sides; but under the top cover. And then pull up, try several angles until you succeed.
This is the only way to take the small black plate out; the keyboard cover is keeping it in place. -

Here is the drawing. Like I said you might need to try pulling in various directions it's not easy. Also be careful not to damage something in the area with the tweezer.

There must be room for tweezers... unless the Z70 is really much different from the M6 but I don't think so.
By the way, the red "2. " should be "3." but I'm sure you understood that.
Also, you need of course to repeat the operation on the right-hand side to loosen the keyboard cover completely. -

Yep, I suppose you were also able to remove the mini-pci cover after that, right?
I don't know about the rubber pads, never took my lcd apart... I am planning to because after they replaced it in RMA (I had some... cracking problems after a car crash) the bezel is not properly fastened on one side and it's creaking when the laptop is moved around...
I don't know what you could try... maybe they need to be rotated to come out? I have no idea. In the worst case you could just remove them destructivelyBut then the screws would show to the back of the notebook it would be less pretty...

You're definitely going to have a lot of fun. I took my z70va apart to replace the GPU, and now have 10 screws left over. I don't see how you could have skipped that part though... just follow the guide from start to finish.

i recommend using an exacto knife or hobby knife to lift the rubber pads. its a little hard to remove, but if you use a little elbow grease and really dig in there, the pads will come out.

I really wish there was a way to get to the gpu without tearing the whole thing apart. I'm getting deeper into the computer now. I'm now trying to seperate the top case from the bottom. Anyway the gpu gets really hot so I think maybe the fan isn't working for some reason. Unfortunately there is no way to easily get to it unlike the cpu... -
How do you guys take apart the lcd? After removing the screws they make it look as if all you need to do is snap it apart with your fingers but it doesn't look that simple, its stuck together really tightly without much space to stick anything into and I'm afraid I might break the screen if I flex it too much.
Need help taking apart a notebook.
