Hi Folks,
My Vivobook S300 has a broken display.
I can use it on an external monitor, but am unable to get into the BIOS.
F2 seems to work, since the Notebook will not boot further and continues upon F10.
It looks like the BIOS would not recognize Fn+F8 to switch Displays.
Could someone with a working Display check how to switch Monitors?
Thank you for any help.
Regards

Hello @Michel Firholz and welcome to NBR.
Have you tried Fn+F8, not just the F8 key?toughasnails, ALLurGroceries and custom90gt like this. -

What interface did you use to connect to the external display? D-Sub, HDMI, or USB? -
Yes, I forgot to mention: I tried both Fn+F8 and every other F key...
I tried the VGA interface and HDMI, None of them would Display the BIOS info. -

Do you know if the system can still enter Windows? If yes, can you get any output on the external display after it got in? -
Yet it runs Windows perfectly on VGA or HDMI.
But I am unable to manage displaying the BIOS content in order to change the boot order. -

That's interesting. You would think the integrated graphics can support D-Sub at least natively, especially the BIOS screen. But in this case, it's not working. Hmmm. -
If you unplug the internal monitor, will it force the BIOS output to the external display?
-
No. The LVDI Display is already unpluged.
I would love to get a post from someone who managed to get the BIOS on an external monitor. -
Intel's HD graphics do support external monitors on other Laptops' BIOSes.
It looks like a bad implemented BIOS Firmware.Falkentyne likes this. -

It should work natively, perhaps it's a BIOS issue with your unit and maybe the bug has been patched already? -
I agree, it should. I have strong doubts that someone cares to patch it, anyhow I could not even install the BIOS upgrade.
Need help to get into BIOS without Laptop display
