Tried to make a Dvd copy today and found it that I cant....Mat****a UJ-831D is the model I have for the Asus Z70V. Does anyone have a link or can tell me what to do to update the driver to make it work for either DVD Shrink/ Nero? Also which blank media will work well with this drive? Memorex or other brands?

Doing speed tests on Nero....first off it only recognize 1/4 different brands I use at the house....TDK wont work, Philips does test but dont write, ritek, and another house brand. If you got someone kind of software that will help me write DVD for this Mat****a 831D let me know....or the link for a firmware. As of right now, window xp thinks its only a CD rom drive....doesn't detect its full capabilty. It can play DVD movies and rip movies but cannot write.

Try the latest nero. Asus has released a new nero recently with an update bundled. Not sure which drive you got and how long it was on the shelf. Try higher rated media like 16x dvd and try more brands. You should find that a combination of right decoder and higher rated media you may be able to burn right

Those Mat****a drives always seem to be very fussy about their diet. I'm amazed that the brand hasn't died off from starvation - the OEMs must get them at a good price.

A quick Google should lead you to some suggested media. Fro example, try http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=124083.
