So I followed the instructions in http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=2097089&postcount=95 and ended up being mostly successful. My ethernet driver for some reason would appear to install but did not until I did the "have disk" thing. Now everything is present and accounted for except for one "Base System Device". If viewed by connection, it's connected to the Intel 82801 PCI Bridge. Firewire is shown and working, as are the Ricoh XD\SD\MC devices.
Anyone know what my missing device is? I want to start installing my apps and stuff but not really while I'm missing a Base System Device... it sounds important.

the Hardware Ids list as
PCI/VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_15D71043&REV_12
PCI/VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_15D71043
PCI/VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_088000
PCI/VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_0880 -
That is the 'Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller' (at least it is on G2S) - when I did my XP install I installed the Ricoh_Xp Driver from the Treiber XP driver package that is floating around. I was then left with a Base System Device after installing all other drivers. I did a driver update using a DVD with all the Vista drivers on it in my DVD drive and let it search for driver, and the device was automatically installed.

I found this thread in the Asus support forums for the G1s. Someone has taken the time to compile a driver/utility pack for XP. Check it out:

thanks man!

does it work 0001? I got the same issue, even after reinstalling drivers found on http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...Language=en-us.
if ok, could you tell me what is this damned "Base System Device" with ids "PCI/VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_15D71043&REV_12
PCI/VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_15D71043
PCI/VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_088000
PCI/VEN_1180&DEV_0843&CC_0880" ???
Thx -
I hate to say it but it looks like that's the same driver pack I started with... d'oh. I haven't been able to try the other Vista drivers yet. Is there anyone out there with a clean G1S XP install?
-
As I said - it is the Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller

I had the same issue. I was told to pop in the drivers CD that came with the notebook and let the update driver under device manager search in your cd-rom. It doesn't matter if it's the vista drivers disc either. It worked for me, and it is the Ricoh Host Controller like bdbell said.

Ok, missing one was "Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller" and I fix it using vista driver like unid3ntifi3d said. everything is fine.
Thx a lot. Now, my G1S is full XP-configured and running smoothly...
Need help with G1S XP install
