I have a V6Va with a flickering screen. I sent it to Asus repair and they replaced the screen with a new one. Now I suspect they either replaced it with a wrong screen or they did not install the screen properly. I know V6Va has IPS screen with good viewing angle. That's why I bought it. Now, I can't read part of the screen without viewing it exactly at 90 degree.
Screen View at 90 degree
Screen View at 135 degree
Screen View at 160 degree
As you see, the screen is washed out at 135 degree and totally unusable at 160 degree.
Can someone with a V6Va confirm that it's not normal with their screen. I am planning to send it back but I'd like to be sure.
Thank you,
Dugdug

Ehhh, looks like a V6j screen, mines definitely doesn't look like that.
Was the flickering a constant flickering? Do you usually plug the Adapter into the wall(instead of a power surge?). -
hi Cori,
Thanks for the reply. The flickering was constant especially on battery. I do plug the adapter directly to the wall. I assume any power surge will either regulated by the power brick or kill the power brick first before it gets to the notebook.
Anyway, looks like they replace it with non-IPS screen even though the repair slip says spare part for V6Va screen. I will send it back and see what happen.

well.. at least you'll have better response time with a v6j
v6va has 50ms response time so even watching some cartoons can be difficult ! (hope im wrong but..)
-
Actually the screen is real joy to watch movies on. The colours are so much more vivid and the viewing angles are fantastic giving quite an immersive experience. I was so impressed with the screen especially when I first got it. I played a simple game like WC3 and felt like I was inside the game
The slower response time does cause tiny amounts of ghosting but nothing really noticeable unless you're specifically looking out for it. Response times doesn't mean everything. Some 25ms screens look much better and smoother than others quoted at 8ms. I've owned and seen many laptops displays including many Sony Vaio which generally has very good displays but nothing I have seen/experienced comes close.
It makes it difficult to switch to an ordinary display... I wish I could just pull the screen out, buy a laptop I like and replace the screen with this one.
Back on topic. That screen is definitely not V6VA IPS screen probably the V6j screen as mentioned. -
I have yet to see any sort of ghosting on my V6va, when gaming or watching movies. My eyes might be bad, but its not that bad

All you guys with your IPS screens... stop bragging

Well, I checked on my V6j as I looked at your pictures, I would say that is probably a V6j screen. Too bad you didn't get the other upgrades with it!

**Sigh** Have I ever mentioned that I am in love with the V6Va.

I've been thinking of selling recently to grab something smaller like the Z35f/dv2000 - but mmmm I need at least an x1300/x1400 to run Ubuntu at the my minimum settings.
However, I doubt it'll happen hah. -
Cori .. you got me all excited for NOTHING !!!!

C6 and I go way back......I think
RFD yayayaya haha
But honestly, I don't know yet, I love it and all, but at times, its a tad too big. Maybe because the people I sit with in my lectures all have MacBooks(And the V6 is like 1mm thicker) so I find it big. Just me perhaps
-
No .. no.. you are totally right man. Too big, got to minimize.

You two could be brothers, but what good is a 15" screen in a 15.4" notebook? I could put his screen in my computer in minutes, so it does me lots of good. -
I was | | close in buying a Thinkpad x31 for $600 CDN, 1.7 PM 12" 1gb 20gb(lol..) with all the fix-ins.
**** you RFD rawrrrrrrrrrrrrr! -
Err... I am not ripping apart the screen... I want the whole thing.

I'd like to update my situation. My problem has been resolved by Asus repair. They acknowledged that they put a wrong screen on my V6Va the first time around. I sent the notebook back and got it back with the correct IPS screen this time. I can immediately tell the difference.
This is the screenshots comparison between IPS and non-IPS.
IPS screen viewed from 90 degree
IPS screen viewed from 135 degree
IPS screen viewed from 160 degree
non-IPS screen viewed from 90 degree
non-IPS screen viewed from 135 degree
non-IPS screen viewed from 160 degree
Anyway, I am really happy with my notebook now.
