Okay I have my G51 still running Vista. I have Windows XP Pro and my Win 7 upgrade CD and Asus Drivers CD that I recently got from Asus in hand...

I want to install XP and then Win7 as a dual boot system. The reason is that most of my older games will not run in compatibility mode.

I am afraid that if I format and install XP and then try to install my Win7 CD it wont let me because I'm not upgrading from the OEM Vista install currently on my computer.

Here are some of my questions:

Should I create a Vista recovery disk first install XP then Vista from the recovery and then Win7 if the recovery wont wipe out my XP?

If I install XP first, is the Asus Win7 upgrade CD that they recently sent me the full version of Win7 and will it allow me to do a clean install with CD key or can I only install it over the existing Vista?

What do I need to do?

    Thanks to all who reply,
    Tom

Regardless I think you'd still be able to install XP and then use the upgrade disc to do a full install. Of course you'll have to reinstall XP again afterwards because you would have upgraded from it. If you already have Vista installed I recommend just installing 7 and then install XP.

I don't know if the asus provided Win7 upgrade disc is the standard Microsoft Win7 upgrade disc, but if it is you can do a 'clean' install of Win7 from it without having a previous OS installed. It all depends on what Asus provides.

I'd definitely install XP *first* no matter what you do. If you don't, and install it after Win7, you'll have to manually repair the boot manager as XP will wipe it out. You almost always want to install XP before WinVista or Win7.

    Sorry couldn't help further.
