    Hi all,

I need help with my ASUS here.
I have got so many problems in this ASUS.. I really really hope that someone could help me fixing this:

    1. I cannot connect to the Internet.
I'm using other computer to post this.
Mine should be using Intel Pro 2100 lan pci adapter thing to connect.
But somehow it doesnt work anymore.

Intel(R) Proset 7.4.4.1 or something with the version number.

I have installed the files from intel.com, but it doesnt work. :(

Please please help as I'm using my computer for business matter.

    2. In the Services.msc (from START>RUN) the Spectrum24 Event Monitor Service cannot be started because of weird error reason like marked for deletion thing. Please help.

    3. You know when using laptop there is another button in keyboard called Fn button.

Combined with F series button it helps in managing the computer.
    Example:

    Fn + F5 > Brightness down
    Fn + F6 > Brightness up

    Something like that.

The thing is, there is no display for the brightness bar. Usually it is displayed on top left or right. But now it's no longer there. What should I do? Is it related to ATI thing?

    4. My LED lamp doesnt work for the wireless.
Should be Fn + F2, but it's not working.

My laptop is ASUS M2400N M2N series.

    Windows XP.

    Please help
    Thank you for helping

    Kind regard,
    Ron

    * Reinstall ATK Hotkey drivers
    * Reinstall Wireless drivers from ASUS site
    * Make sure your physical switch to disable wireless is not switched off its usually on the front panel.

    * if none of that works try what i have listed below

i would say try booting off a Live CD to see if you can replicate these problems their. Check if its hardware or software, Suse Debian and many other linux distros have live CDS that will boot off a CD to test these problems out.

    Hi,

    Thank you for replying, Errant.

Where can I find the correct ATK Hotkey Drivers?
Could you please specify how to do it? and where to find the driver?

What do you mean Wireless drivers from ASUS site?

And where is the front panel to disable Wireless? Is it Fn+F2? Fn+F2 does not work. :(

    Please help

All the necessary drivers should be on your drivers disk. If you don't have it, you can download them from the Asus website (link below)
    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Select your notebook model and operating system and it will take you to the download site.

Your Asus model doesn't have a physical wireless switch, so don't worry about that. The Hot Key Driver should solve your Fn+F2 issue.

    Hi David,

I am currently looking at that site as well. Thank you :)
My laptop is M2400N. Which should be M2N.
When I'm checking the drivers for wireless, I see the Intel CALEXICO driver (to install after uninstalling old Intel Proset first...?). Should I install that for my Intel Pro 2100 LAN 3B PCI Adapter?

I want to solve the Internet thing first as the Internet in this notebook is not working.
When I open Intel Proset from Start>Run>Intel Adapter (or something)>Intel Proset, the window appears just like blinking.
    How to solve this issue?

By the way, what makes the "Spectrum24 Event Monitor Service" unable to start?

Yup, but make sure you uninstall your current wireless driver first, then install the new :)

If your wireless still doesn't work, then try and download the wireless driver from the Intel website

Direct link (scroll down to download):
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Professional&lang=eng

Spectrum24 Event Monitor Service is related to your wireless device, so you probably have a corrupted wireless driver.

Before concluding that your wifi card is faulty and needs to be replaced, try reinstalling your OS with your restore disk. You should backup all your data before doing this. If this still doesn't work, you may need to replace your wifi card with a new one. They are pretty cheap nowadays, ~$5 and $34 for the top of the line card.

    I cant risk it.
I have the restore CD, but there are lots of important documents in partition in it.

I prefer to have Windows Zero Config + Intel Proset for this.
    Please help

I would recommend doing a backup of those important documents, in case you don't have one. Even if your computer seems to be running just fine. HDDs have a way of dying on you sometimes.

Apologies if you do have backups. But I didn't want to risk it by not saying this. :)

    Still does not work.

By the way I'm unable to open Intel Proset.

    Start>Intel Network Adapter>Intel(R) Proset

It shows the logo, but it stops at the logo display. In other words, it's hang/crash/whatever you call it

It looks like the s24trans is not available.

And the Netsvc is giving a report of not running in Event Viewer.

I think s24trans is the crucial one.
It is running in another exact computer.

Any tips on dealing with this?

    Hi,

I have got another problem when installing the Hotkey Setup.exe.
Something is wrong with my InstallShield.
When I dblclick Setup.exe, nothing happens.

When I check the Task Manager, there are 3 files that appears:
    Setup.exe, Wowexec.exe, ntvdm.exe

The Setup.exe and wowexec can only be closed if I end process of ntvdm.exe

I have tried fixing the InstallShield by reinstalling based on the installshield.com faq regarding this error, by deleting the engine folder under C:\ProgramFiles\Common Files\InstallShield\engine and reinstalling the InstallShield. But this FAQ from installshield.com is not working.

Something is definitely wrong with my computer. More and more errors keep coming :(
    Please help.

I think this is the final approach to fix the whole system.

    Kind regard,
    Ronny

Sounds to me that you should probably try a clean install with the restore disk. Backup all your documents first.

That would probably be the easiest fix IMO.

His OS sounds royally messed up, but here's a few other things worth trying/checking first:

    - check to see if CPU is going up to 100% (if the CPU is being floored by some errant process, WiFi may have issues connecting),
    - check to see if ANY sort of WiFi networks are visible,
    - if you have Intel ProSet installed, the main screen should give you an indication whether the radio is on or not,
    - try using wired internet to see if it works... (determines if it's a network card issue or a OS network STACK issue, malfunctioning firewall or filtering software can do this),
    - check the Event Viewer (eventvwr) under System and verify if there are any ftdisk or disk errors (indicates a failing HDD),
    - do a RAM test on the PC (use memtest86 from www.memtest.org). Could be memory going bad and messing up your setup.
