Since I've gotten my f8, I've been using it with my old Antec cooling pad, which was my cooling pad for my old z70va.

Recently, I was made aware that there are several designs for a cooling pad, specifically there are types that suck air from the bottom of your notebook, while some blow air. With that said, I believe my notebook will need one that blows air, as the f8 has intakes at the bottom (correct me if I'm wrong), and that using my current antec is probably counterproductive due to the fact that it sucks air from the bottom of my notebook.

Anyhow, is it worth investing in another cooling pad that blows air or am I safe with this old antec cooler? If its recommended that I should get a blower, what are good cooler pads that blow air? I've been seeing a lot of the Zalman ZM-NC1000. Lastly, is this overkill? It probably is because my lappy hasn't gotten hot since I got it but I guess I just dont want my notebook to suffer the same fate as my old z70va.

    Any suggestions/comments are appreciated.

PS Maybe I should've put this in the accessories forum instead, but I guess I want to hear from my asus family first =D

Sonny - I am going thru the process of finding a cooler for my F8SA now - so, this is more of a bump than informative. Looking at the "door" on the bottom of my F8 - there doesn't seem to be much in the line of vents. And, scary thing is, even when playing a 3D game on battery, the vent on the right-hand side becomes almost too hot to touch. I have the Zalman 1000 silver in my cart in NewEgg but I'm not sure if its the solution, or not, either...

Sonny, one I think you could look at that works well with my C90s is the Belkin....it's about 29 bux, usb powered, and very easy to take with you. Not the best looking one for sure, but damn it functions well.

Hey Jelly, I'm still unsure with my decision too, although since Zoid mentioned the Belkin, and my friend has the belkin as well and loves it, I'm starting to lean towards that. Although Belkin was on sale last week at Best Buy for 20 bucks so that was a pretty good steal.

Thanks again for your comments and input.

Make your own cooling pad. There's a guide here somewhere.

As far as I can tell, cooling pads give an improvement of a few degrees at most... that may, or may not, lengthen the life of the components. It;s up to you to decide.

My opinion: In all likelihood, with these new notebooks, some non-heat related failure will probably happen long before heat-induced damage will kick in. I'm not talking the C90 of course, for that one heat is a central issue with the desktop CPU...

    Hi,

I've just purchased the Zalman NC 1000 and I can confirm what E.B.E said...

I personally feel it was a baddish buy.....but the decision is yours!

    Cheers,

Question is, what are they without the cooling pad? If they are 10 or even 5 degrees higher, then it's worth it. Otherwise, I'm having doubts.

I found the review in here, but I will still do the temp test myself tonight

    "Heat and Noise
The F3sv provided surprising results in this area. Under extreme stress of gaming and benchmarking, the notebook feels relatively cool. More surprising is that the fan's noise is barely audible – and then notebook is completely silent under moderate stress. The F3sv is remarkably cool and silent under significant processing stress.

CPU Temp (Average x2 Cores) Degrees Celsius
    Idle 49
    Normal Stress 55
    Gaming Stress 62

The ambient temperature for tests was 24 degrees Celsius."

I'm surprised by the negative comments about the Zalman - the reviewers on NewEgg seemed pretty happy with it minus the size/weight. I have reviewed a few things on NewEgg & I think the reviews there tend to be pretty realistic. In fact I bought my F8SA based on NewEgg reviews. The size and weight of the Zalman is a consideration though - I have to pack my F8 back and forth every day so three pounds would make a difference (I'm old and decrepit... :( )

Is a cooling pad intended to be carried away? Not necessarily I think, one can also keep it in the place where the NB is used most.
