    Hi

Anyone knows how to install Nero 7 Essentials using Windows Vista?

It says it needs Directx 9.0c before proceeding but Vista already has Directx 10 installed.

Have you tried running the install in XP Compatibility mode?

I just started my vista venture today with Vista Ultimate x64, I suppose thats abit more complicated because I have to deal with x86 (32bit) programs that wont work aswell. No issues so far, chances are that Nero itself will have a version of the program to work with vista if its not already compatible.

It may also be one of the few things that just wont work, Vista is heavy on copy protection I can tell in just 1 day of use, and considering Nero's nature it may be hard to get it working.

    Off-topic (kinda)

Vicious - you having any driver problems re using a 64 bit version of Vista compared to 32bit? What additional drivers/programs (re not included with Vista) do you need for the G1S?

Ok I have a solution for you to try out.

1.) Go and download Nero 7 Premium Reloaded.

    http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero7-up.php

Much like how Vista disks are all the same and your key tells the computer wich version to install, that file should install the correct nero for you based on your Nero key that you have.

If its OEM, the key is saved to your disk, so you should see somthing like "where is my serial number" during the install, click that and choose the option "find my serial from my disk" put in your essentials cd and it will read the number off of it for you and install the right version.

Driver problems? not so much. Fresh install left me with no sound on my computer but soon as I did all the windows updates I guess Nvidia added a offical file to the updates for intergrated sound, I am sure I could have manually installed a driver for that anyways.

I have little experience with Vista x86 but I can tell x64 is abit more quick to move and you do for the most part have to find x64 drivers for things, but anything mainstream has them.

There is also compatablity mode, you can try that if you have problems.

Heck I even got my XBCD drivers to work (3rd party controller drivers for the xbox 360 controller because the MS ones suck!) That was intresting because I had to manually overide digital signing of drivers, but nothing more than a console command and its going just fine.

When I get off work today I have to see if I can get all my video codecs up and going for watching my downloaded anime. I have the system on dual-boot incase I do find somthing big that I cant fix. When ever I start the machine I get to choose to boot into XP or Vista.

I bought the Vista Academic Upgrade for 70$ and paid the 10$ S&H for Microsoft to send me the x64 disk.

Try installing Directx 9.0c the newest version.

I was on the battlefield 2142 forums earlier today and some people were having issues with a similar error and they said just install DX9 and it wont harm the system and made things work for them.

Strange tho that solution should have worked :/

Right click on the icon that launches the program and you will see a tab that says compatability. You can choose a few options from there to make some older programs work that otherwise wouldnt.

I havent had any need/sucsess with xp compatabilty yet but for some people it works.

If your getting a dx9 error tho I doubt compatabilty will fix it :/ but hey its worth a shot only takes seconds to do. Make sure to try to run the program as an admin aswell. BF2142 only runs as an admin and its the only program I noticed any issues with so far, thats not bad on vista BF2142 has issues with every OS :p

Nero installs by itself but I don't feel very confident installing Directx 9.0c in a system that already has Directx 10.

You need to install 9.0c. Not only is it required for Nero here but it'll be required for other games as well. Get the latest DirectX runtimes from Microsoft's website, they are smart and know you're installing on Vista with DX10, and in fact even include some updated DX10 stuff you might be missing.

Thats an auto update deal, it wont work with vista its for older windows.

Vista is supposed to have a built in API that replaces DX9.

I hunted for an update today for awhile and couldnt find one, so looks like vista comes stock with the most up to date DX that it can.

I did read a few threads on a few diffrent forums where people were instructed to install DX9 to fix certian game problems where they got no DX9 errors, that much is true. However how much truth is in that solution I dont know.

"No problems with the link but try to read the requirements: Vista isn't there..."

It doesn't matter. I received this same advice from a different notebook forum when I was having troubles running the lost planet demos. This runtime updated the DX9 stuff in Vista to the latest version and also added a DX10 DLL I didn't have previously. After installing, Lost Planet worked flawlessly, and so did Nero.

If you don't want to install it that's fine, but I think you're being a little too cautious here. It worked for me.

Tried it myself today and all went well.

I had the same issue during install for nero 7, said vista needed a DX9 update, I just left it checked and hit next and it installed everything fine. I checked my DXDIAG.EXE file after and my DX was not changed at all. So feel free to install it and just let the program think its updating your DX9 and you will be ok.
