    http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_PC/Eee_PC_1025CE/#

I bought this Netbook and it only came with 1GB of memory, which really slowed it down, especialy when it comes with the new N2800 dual core cpu and PowerVR SGX545 based graphics.

I used cpu-z to check that it was using an so-dimm for memory and asus had not started soldering the memory directly to the pcb, it`s best to check.

It should really have come with at least 2GB, shame of Asus for penny pinching, i and had searched the web, and nobody could confirm if the 1025CE would take a 4GB stick, most said the max was 2GB.

So ordered a 4GB stick from Crucial UK , I bought the "CT51264BF1339 4GB, 204-pin SODIMM " , the low voltage version, it can run at 1.35 volts instead of the normal 1.5 volts

I had checked the NM10 chipset whitepaper and it said it was 1.5 volt only, but cpu-z is showing it running at 1.28 volts

I booted the notebook and it spotted the 4gb straight away, but Windows 7 starter only recognizes 2GB , but i found a hack that gives me just over 3GB.

I ran memtest86+ v4.20 and Win7 memory diagnostics with zero errors

I had a old 60GB SSD, that i fitted at the same time and it works great

One other thing, this notebook only had one speaker, the right one, as you can see from the photo`s

If anybody get`s an 1025CE and decides to do the upgrade, just ask and i will help, it`s not a difficult dissembley, there is a video on youtube, but it`s not in english.

EDIT : I have added a load of photo`s from a 16meg camera, I tried resizing but i lost detail, so i posed the original images. :)

Hi for the 4Gb to be detected you should use a 64bit version of windows as 32bit is limited to 3GB of RAM.

Tinderbox (UK), that's pretty cool stuff. I'd like to see pics if you have 'em! I've considered buying a 1025 for a while, but the actual release took so long (it was originally supposed to be out in late 3Q of 2011).

TheArkTruth, this is not true anymore of 32-bit releases, they can see 4GB. Windows 7 Starter is artificially limited to 2GB. See: Memory Limits for Windows Releases

I would have loved too, but there is no 64bit version of Win7 Starter and the Intel video driver is only available in 32bit, as well as some other drivers.

Links to the photo`s i have taken are in post 1.

    Hi Tinderbox,

what is the exact model of hard drive in your 1025CE ?
It seem to be a WD ??

Was it difficult to open the 1025CE case ?

All Asus websites tell that there's no SODIMM connector in 1025CE ?
I'm in France and hope there will be one in order to upgrade memory like you.

All those question because I'm expecting to buy one in 2 weeks and also want to replace H.D. by an S.S.D..
I'm using EEEPC 901 since 10-2008 and still very pleased of it, but it really doesn't like High definition contents more and more presents on web and movies ... So it's time to change.

I dont have the 1025CE as i thought the cpu was a little too slow for my liking also it would keep freezing, locking up when i tried to play my old games on it, down to display driver.

It was a WD 320gb as far was i know, I dont know the model number.

Once you get the 1025CE, use cpu-z to find the part numbers of the memory, and you will be able to tell if it`s an standard so-dimm or soldered to the motherboard.

Once the screws are removed the case is held together quite solid and it took a bit of effort to work my way around the edge with an old credit card
to get it to pop open.

EDIT : on the ribbon cables, to release the black bit at the back lifts up, all apart from the large keyboard ribbon cable, I think you push the clip back on that one, i broke one on the hdd, they are very fragile.

Also their is a warranty invalidated sticked covering one of the screws holding the mother board in place.

    Thanks for your answer.

Here in France 1025CE is the top version with Atom N2800 and Bluetooth, 1025C runs N2800 without Bluetooth.
    1015CX runs N2600 without Bluetooth.

I don't use Bluetooth anyway it is too slow, If you have an android phone/tablet there are a number of apps to transfer files using wifi, it`s much faster, not sure if you can stream music though.

    Hi,
then I've bought an ASUS 1025CE, then opened and modified it.
Using a credit card for openning doesn't hurt the case at all.
Inside it's EXACTLY the same motherboard as 1025C. the difference is daughterboard witch has a USB 3.0 port.

    I replaced the 1GB ASint ram module by a 4GB PC10600 (1333Mhz) - CT51264BC1339|CL9.

I also replaced the 320GB WD hard drive by a SDSSDX-240G-G25 SANDISK 240GB SSD.

It's now almost like an Ultrabook for half the price !

Hi all, this is my first time posting in this forum, I have some question regarding this netbook.

    1. How do I know if the memory is smoldered to motherboard? There are a few in the local store and I would like to check before buying them.

    2. Consider that many here had successfully upgrade their asus 1025ce, can anyone make a video regarding the process of doing it please? I'm newbie when it comes to hardware. :(

    3. I'm thinking if I can upgrade the netbook, is there any different in ssd and ram where some run with lower power consumption so I can prolong the battery life?

    4. What else can it be upgrade beside memory, hdd and os (y not upgrading to ultimate tho?) ?

There is a huge amount of misinformation on the Asus 1025CE sold in the US. There are very few distributors. The largest is Amazon, Amazon.com: ASUS 1025CE-MU17-PR 10.1-Inch Netbook (Metallic Purple): Computers & Accessories

This past Saturday I assisted a friend who had just bought the 1025CE from amazon to upgrade the RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium x86, drivers and other software. It's a very nice machine. This is the order in which we did it.

    1. The RAM upgrade process is not that much of a challenge so long as you take out a white sheet of paper, draw the laptop shape on it and place the screws on a corresponding place on the paper when you remove them from the laptop. The 1GB RAM module was removed and the 4GB module was snapped in easily. The RAM module IS NOT SOLDERED to the laptop inners. A magnetic philips head screw driver helps. It also helps to have another computer nearby watching the installation video. Note that one of the screws is hidden under a very small 1/2" yellow sticker on the lower left side. Be gentle prying the case apart as the little plastic hooks can easily chip.

Upgrading an Asus 1025C RAM to 2GB [HowTo] - YouTube .

    We installed a 4GB PC3-10600 Non-ECC DDR3 1333 L9 204-Pin SODIMM Unbuffered Memory Module and it showed up as 4GB with 2.999GB useable (Windows 7 32-bit).
    Kingston ValueRam KVR1333D3S9/4G,
    Amazon.com: Kingston ValueRam 4GB PC3-10600 L9 204-Pin SODIMM Notebook Memory KVR1333D3S9/4G: Electronics

    2. Upon installing the RAM and booting the netbook, it went through some setup stuff. We then rebooted, connected to the Internet and upgraded the OS to Win7HPx86. It upgraded with no problems, but took 2.5 hours to complete the OS installation and update process in spite of our 12 MB bandwidth. Be patient and let it do its thing.

    3. Once Win7HPx86 was installed we installed Microsoft Security Essentials, a free antivirus program, and did a quick scan (full scan to do later).
Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

    4. Even though the netbook was probably made in the past couple months, it still contained January drivers for some components with updated March and April drivers. You will need to go through the list of drivers and software at ASUS - Eee- ASUS Eee PC 1025CE to make a comparison and get the new ones. Incidentally, you will be comparing versions against what shows up in the Device Manager and the Programs and Features control panels.

Key drivers and software that needed updating were:

    BIOS
    Asus Updater (BIOS updater)
    Intel Graphics Media Accelerator
    Asus Super Hybrid Angine
    USB Charge+
    and others

We also uninstalled several pieces of bloatware like Asus Liveupdate, Eee-Docking, games, sample virus software, etc.

    5. Finally, we began installing the good stuff to make it ready: Firefox, Skype, iTunes, Quicktime, Eudora 7.1.0.9 (email client), Google Earth, etc. I left as he was looking for his Microsoft Office 2010 disk.

    6. The only unexpected and weird feature on the 1025CE we upgraded on Saturday was that the 320GB hard drive was broken into a C drive of 100GB and a D drive of 184GB (even though the D drive only had 100MB of data on it). System info said there was a total of 299GB usable on the hard drive. Why Asus would break up the HD like that I don't know. I would burn a restore disk, then reformat the entire hard drive to eliminate the D partition or reduce its size substantially.

We didn't run any performance tests other than to be sure the webcam worked. Google Earth worked well. I may talk him into installing Microsoft Flight Simulator FS9 or FSX to see the graphics capability in action. :D

Specs for the 1025CE-MU17-PR purchased at Amazon, Amazon.com: ASUS 1025CE-MU17-PR 10.1-Inch Netbook (Metallic Purple): Computers & Accessories

here is the hack How To: Remove Windows 7 32bit 4GB Memory Limit | Howorks , but install it before you start to add your apps

I returned the 1025CE as it will not play any non browser flash games, it`s WEI score for graphics is 1 , and it would bsod when i tried to run games, fault graphic driver, that has been fixed.

If 11.6" is not too big, I recommend you look at the Acer AO725, it comes with windows 7 64bit so 4gb is no problem, also one screw is all you need to remove to access the hdd and ram and wifi , also the screen is 1366 x 768 , the cpu is an amd c-60 it is very close to the n2600/n2800 for power , but the gpu is 4x as powerful, so you can play most older games.

Dimensions and weight of 1025CE and Acer AO725 below.

    1025CE 10.3x7x1.3" at 2.7 lb

    Acer AO725 11.2x8x0.9" at 2.65 lb

Tinderbox, you must have had a flawed 1025CE. Note my earlier msg in this thread. The Windows Experience Index (WEI) for the 1025CE is:

Windows Experience Index (Control Panel>System) is 3.5 with breakdowns of:
    Processor: 3.6
Memory (RAM): 5.6 (with 4GB RAM)
    Graphics: 5.9
    Gaming graphics: 3.4
    Primary hard disk: 5.9

Here are two more owners who confirmed the same numbers.

    Curio (1025CE 2GB RAM):
    3.6 | 5.2 | 5.9 | 3.4 | 7.3 (SSD upgrade explains the bump in the last value)
    Amazon.com: Curio's review of ASUS 1025CE-MU17-PR 10.1-Inch Netbook (Met...

1025ce owner at Asus 1025CE review - best 10 inch EEE PC so far, but...,
    3.6 | 5.2 | 5.9 | 3.4 | 5.8

I am equally unimpressed with Intel for advertising one thing (64-bit) then not producing x64 drivers. I've posted this message on the Intel website to make that known.
    30Sep12 0117 Is there Still No 64-bit Windows 7 Driver for the Cedar Trail N2800 Processor's GMA3650?

This msg went on the Asus website.
2Oct12 0434 ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- Harmful Result of Intel's Flawed Adom Cedar Trail N2800 Processor

As noted in those messages, I love 10.1" laptops for travel. An 1025CE is en route to me now because my 1005PE was stolen. I only hope we can intimidate Intel, Imagination Technologies or Asus into writing an x64 driver for it to realize its full value - or that owners can find a third party x64 driver that works. Even with 3GB of RAM usable and Win7HPx86 it will be a highly mobile, capable little box for business and education needs. Unfortunately, after the Intel driver debacle, it may mark the end of the netbook line for Asus.

cyberbiker maybe so, but comparing the gpu in the acer 725 and the asus 1025CE the WEI number seem strange for the aero and gaming , I get 4.1 for aero and 5.5 for gaming, but according to notebook check, the radeon 6290 gets an average of 1596 points in 3dmark06 and the GMA 360 gets an average of 431 points.

John, I agree it isn't destined to satisfy gamers, though I'm sure better drivers would help it. However Microsoft sets the criteria for measuring the WEI obviously favors aspects fo the 1025CE. It's probably time for MS to reassess its criteria given the distance the technology has gone. My interest is a small laptop with a long battery life handles all business, financial and video applications effectively. Keeping current using Microsoft Flight Simulator is as far into gaming as it needs to go for me. I'll let you know how it handles that.

I was trying to play 1080p video`s on youtube and it was jumping like hell, i checked the gpu usage and it was zero, so i right clicked the video and discovered it was not flash player but some hdml5 test, so i turned it off and turned flash player back on and my 1080p played fine with the gpu being used.

Just did the ram hack, but if I load the ram hack boot then the graphics driver doesn't load and i am stuck at 800x600. Got the ambiguous error (43 I think it was) and re-installing the graphics driver didn't do anything. The task manager shows that there is like, no memory reserved for it, and none of the usual troubleshooting options see to do anything.

Anyone know a way around that? Or a way for Windows 7 Starter to support 3.25gb ram instead of just 2gb?

Have a look in msconfig there is a memory tick box, in boot/advanced options/max memory try changing the value to 3.5gb or 4gb, i dont have an intel netbook any more.

The problem is cause my the video card using the notebooks memory, the hack messes it up somehow, but try the above advice.

I wonder if you can tell me more about the RAM upgrade. From your photo DSC00223.jpg the RAM is on a normal board. Does the 4Gb stick plug in to an edge connector on the motherboard or are the connections soldered.

hi, i understand its been a while since you dealt with this, ive just bought a refurbished asus 1025CE, n2800, 1gb ram - about to do this 4gb upgrade and install 64bit w7.....
How do i know what type of memory i can install, in terms of frequency? I check wiki for specs of the n2800, and it says 1 × DDR3-1066
but then people on this thread have said they installed 1333mhz - so i don't get it - what is the optimal frequency memory that i can install?

also where do i go for drivers, once ive clean-installed w7 64bit? Asus website comes up dry.

how do i use cpuz to check? ive just loaded it , and under 'memory' tab, all it says is the type, DDR3, size, 1024mb, and then the timings.
how do I know from that if its a slot load (and therefore i can upgrade) or whether its soldered on?

EDIT: ALSO......under 'performance information and tools, detailed', it says its not 64 bit capable. so......is that right? or is that some BS from windows.

Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post.

I have been trying to upgrade my 1025CE as well and doing a lot of reading-up.

A big problem it seems is the lack of a Win-7 x64 driver for the intel GMA3650 . From another site, I found a link to this beta version of a Win-7 x64 driver.
    Has anyone tried it?
Drivers Intel GMA 3600/3650 8.15.8.1050 bêta

Next, if Intel doesn't have drivers - what is the next best x64 driver that we can find ? Acer? or Asus perhaps?

For this platform, I doubt if there's any publicly released x64 drivers available.
Beta is the probably the best you can find.

    Thanks!

Since I'm doing research for this project, I thought I would share some links and see if anyone has feedback.

There are at least 2 videos on how to strip the 1025C, which is similar:
ASUS Eee PC 1025c RAM Upgrade - How to Install NetBook Memory - YouTube
Asus 1025c Ram Upgrade - YouTube

This video for the 1015 is a close match for changing the SSD in the 1025CE, though the specifics for the rest of the stripping are in videos above:
Asus Eee PC 1015PN | How to replace HDD with SSD - YouTube

For update drivers, I note that Asus uses the same bios etc for both 1025C and 1025CE. Is this accurate?
    Eee PC 1025CE - Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS

I note that softpedia lists these drivers also for x64 .... is it accurate?

Lastly for anyone who needs to create a bootable usb:

    Your comments are welcome!

I'm also watching this page to see if there is indeed a workaround for Intel3650 and its lack of x64 drivers:
